NAME: Blake Christiana
INSTRUMENT: Singer/Guitar

1. THE FIRST ALBUM I EVER BOUGHT WAS … The first couple of albums I remember getting on my own is Van Halen’s “1984” and that Run DMC record with “It’s Tricky” on it. Both of these we’re on vinyl.

2. THE FIRST CONCERT THAT I EVER SAW WAS … I am not entirely certain about this, but I think it was Crosby, Stills & Nash at SPAC. But as a kid my father would take me to see live music at local bars/restaurants all the time.

3. THE FIRST MUSICAL INSTRUMENT I EVER OWNED OR PLAYED WAS … My dad got me a guitar when I was very young, but I also remember getting a drum pad in elementary school when I was even younger, thinking I might learn to play drums. That never happened.

4. THE FIRST SONG THAT I EVER PERFORMED IN PUBLIC WAS … “Down in the Valley” – traditional. I think I was 9 or 10, and I used to take lessons at Drome Sound in Schnectady. They held recitals once a month, and I played an instrumental version of “Down in the Valley.” It must have been awful.

5. THE FIRST BAND I WAS EVER IN WAS … Felix, which turned into Kyndness. Just your typical high school band, it was fronted by Shane Spaulding. Shane and I still write together to this day; he has a bunch of co-writing credits on the Yarn albums, as well.

Blake Christiana and his Yarn bandmates roll into Red Square in Albany on Thursday night (November 17) for an evening of Americana and country-rock. Showtime is 9pm. Tix are $10 in advance; $12 at the door.

LIVE: Yarn @ Shepard Park, 7/8/09

July 10th, 2009, 2:44 pm by Greg

Led by Blake Christiana, the Brooklyn-based country-bluegrass-folk combo Yarn began life as an off-shoot of the electric band Blake & the Family Dog.

Yarn has taken on a life of its own, however, frequently returning to the Capital Region – Christiana and fellow guitarist Trevor MacArthur are both Schenectady natives – for shows at Red Square, Caffe Lena and Saratoga First Night. On Wednesday, July 9, the band took over Shepard Park in Lake George.
