Devoted local music supporter Jimmy Barrett and his The River Street Beat Shop are gearing up for Beat Fest, an outdoor street fest on River Street in Troy on Saturday afternoon (July 7).

The fest will kick off an 12noon and feature three bands with the utterly indescribable Chandler Travis Philharmonic headlining the big bash.

The River Street Beat Shop in Troy is a treasure trove of rare and delightful records and CDs – and so can you think of a better place for live music? Due to the energetic promotion and guidance and all-around cheerleading of owner Jimmy Barrett, countless hordes of local bands have rocked its walls, as Big Creek did at the most recent Troy Night Out. Jimmy must easily have loaded sixteen tons of vinyl, many times over – and he steps up to the mic, to tell us all about it…

Getting a jump on the outdoor festival music calendar, Jimmy Barrett hosted the AcoustiCountry Fest at his River Street Beat Shop in Troy last Saturday afternoon, and let’s face it, you couldn’t have asked for better weather – nice and warm, not too windy and lots and lots of sun.

A fundraiser for the Hope 7 Community Center food bank and after-school program, the fest was a fine way to unwind on a lazy spring afternoon. And, of course, there was plenty of great music to soak up – along with the sunshine.
