Turn Your Back When You Drink It…

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

The fine folks at the Delaware-based Dogfish Head Brewery are brewing up new potent potable – Bitches Brew – in celebration of the upcoming 40th anniversary of Miles Davis’ jazz-fusion classic.

They describe it as “a bold, dark beer that’s a fusion of three threads imperial stout and one thread honey beer with gesho root, a gustatory analog to Miles’ masterpiece.”

Don’t head out to your gourmet beer store to buy it yet, however. The 750ml bottles of Bitches Brew aren’t scheduled to be available until late August.

The Best Dark Beer On Earth

Monday, October 26th, 2009

The October issue of Men’s Journal – I know, but Viggo Mortensen was on the cover – chose the top 25 American beers. Taking the top spot for best dark beer was none other than Three Philosophers, from Cooperstown’s Ommegang Brewery, described as:

“a blend of two classic Belgian styles, strong dark ale and cherry lambic, this beer perfectly combines dark warming goodness and hints of chocolate, cherry and coffee, making it the best night-hued ale on Earth.”

I think they liked it.

Today marks the 250th anniversary of Guinness, and the St. James’ Gate Brewery in Dublin is celebrating in fine fashion with a big blow-out concert.

If you can’t get a draft, you’ll want to opt for the cans, not the bottles, if you value a creamy head:

So raise your glass to Guinness – a meal in a glass!

Sometimes you just need a little headbangin’ to clear away the cobwebs.

And yeah, I suppose that I could have waited for AC/DC on Sunday night. But sometimes when ya gotta go, ya just gotta go. So my old pal Snayle roared into town, picked me up late Saturday afternoon, and we headed off to the Edgefest blast at the Altamont Fairgrounds.
