Win FREE TIX to SPAC’s Battle of the Bands on Friday

Summer’s here, and it’s time for SPAC to start cranking up the tunes.

The Saratoga summer season officially begins on Friday with a double-barreled blast – Ray LaMontagne with Brandi Carlile and the Secret Sisters on the amphitheater mainstage at 7:30pm, and the second annual Saratoga Performing Arts Center Battle of the Bands in the Spa Little Theater at 6pm on the same night.

The SPAC Battle of the Bands is actually something like a mini-music fest, where concert-goers can hear a wide range of musical styles from glam to jam, from blues to bluegrass, from hip-hop to alt-rock. The 10 competing bands will each have 10 minutes to perform their original music onstage in the final round of the competition on Friday. Here are the finalists:

The 10 Finalists in the SPAC Battle of the Bands…

The line-up for the second annual Saratoga Performing Arts Center Battle of the Bands has been announced, and the ten bands competing in the final round are:

Don’t Look Down – pop/rock – Fishkill
Eastbound Jesus – bluegrass/rock – Greenwich
Head Band Jack – folk/bluegrass/Americana/blues – Saratoga Springs
High Peaks Band – jam – Saratoga Springs
Jonny Rose and Broken Glass & Cigarettes – glam rock – Albany
MaryLeigh & the Fauves – blues/pop – Saratoga Springs
Probing Digit – pop/rock – Saratoga Springs
Stuck On Stupid – modern/classic rock – Albany
The Garden Variety – rock/hip-hop/reggae/dance – Queens/Albany
The LateShift – alternative/rock – Albany

SPAC Battle of the BandsThe ten bands will face off against each other at 6pm on Friday, June 3 at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center’s Spa Little Theater. Each band will have 10 minutes to perform in front of a live audience and a panel of judges – moe. drummer Vinnie Amico, Blue Note Records talent scout Talia Billig and WEQX-FM DJ Jason Irwin. Audience response will count for 60% of the deciding vote in determining the grand prize winner, with the remaining 40% based on judges’ evaluations. The event will be hosted by Dani Stein.

Tickets for the finals are $15, and also include free admission to the official after party at Putnam Den in Saratoga Springs featuring the Stone Revival Band.

The entries are in, and 68 bands have thrown their hats into the ring, hoping to snag top honors at the second annual SPAC Battle of the Bands at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center.

Each band submitted a video of an original song, and you can watch them all right here and vote for your favorite.

SPAC Battle of Bands Deadline Approaches Rapidly

Just a reminder: The deadline for entering the SPAC Battle of Bands at the Spa Little Theater is Friday. All entries must be received by 11:59pm on Sunday. The 10 finalists will compete on Friday, June 3. Go here for additional info.

Also, SPAC has announced that moe. drummer Vinnie Amico will be on the three-person panel who will judge the final round of competition. “I am looking forward to returning to SPAC,” says Amico. “Every time moe. has performed at SPAC, it has been a thrill – a real privilege to play on the same stage where I watched many of my idols perform. Judging (the) Battle of the Bands will be a great opportunity to see some of the best new talent on the music scene and to give these bands some insights that I hope will be helpful.”

Amico and his other band, the Stone Revival Band, will also be performing at the SPAC Battle of the Bands after-party, which will be held at Putnam Den in Saratoga Springs. Admission to the after-party is free to everyone who purchases a ticket to the SPAC Battle of the Bands.

Battle of the Bands Returns to SPAC

The Saratoga Performing Arts Center is hosting its second annual Battle of the Bands at 6pm on Friday, June 3.

Local bands are invited to submit a video to YouTube (five minutes maximum length) and send an online application form to SPAC. Deadline for entries is 11:59pm on Sunday, April 24.

Real Good for Free: Nervosity Battle of the Bands Concert @ Guilderland Performing Arts Center, 6/18/10

Ten bands featuring musicians of middle or high school age will be performing at the annual Nervosity Battle of the Bands Concert at the Guilderland Performing Arts Center in Guilderland.

Each band will perform for 15 minutes, and the competition will begin at 6pm on Friday. Admission is free; donations are gratefully accepted with all proceeds going directly to help fight against AIDS.

The Black Tie Operation is Tops

On Saturday at the second annual Albany A Games held at Shelter Skate Park in Albany, the Black Tie Operation emerged as the grand prize winner in the Capital Underground Radio Battle of the Bands.

Congratulations to all of the finalists – Run Diamond Run, Scrap Metal, Skadee and Tyranize.

As the grand prize winner in the battle, Black Tie Operation will receive $1,000 of recording time from North Sea Studios.
