The indescribable singer-songwriting duo Aztec Two-Step is on the road celebrating 40 uninterrupted years of solid musical collaborations in the recording studio and on stages all over the continent.

Their recent stop at the Eighth Step in Proctors found Rex Fowler and Neal Shulman in top form singing up a storm and playing their acoustic guitars like there was no tomorrow. The room was jam-packed with fans as they took the audience on a musical journey of select songs from their 1972 self-titled debut album all the way to their newest, “Cause & Effect,” released just last month.

“I believe my first single was ‘Hats Off to Larry,’ when I was like seven or eight years old.

I started buying singles in that pre-Beatles era of rock ‘n’ roll. I love that kind of music still.”

Neal Shulman and his musical partner Rex Fowler – better known as Aztec Two-Step – will play two different shows at Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs on Friday evening. At 6:30pm, they’ll perform their 40th Anniversary Celebration Concert, and then at 9pm, they’ll pay homage to another harmony-laden folk-rock duo of the ’60s with a tribute show to Simon & Garfunkel. Tix for each show are $30 in advance; $32 at the door.
