Andrew Bird

During live performances he stands alone onstage, surrounded by a phalanx of musical equipment and quirky props: a sock monkey doll in a striped suit and custom-made whirling speakers that look like giant vintage gramophones.

Bird himself can appear a bit preoccupied, like an indie-rock absent-minded professor in gray blazer, cardigan and sneakers – with shoelaces so long he seemed in danger of tripping over them as he dashed around the stage, stepping from one effects pedal to the next.

Andrew Bird Heads into the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall

May 3rd, 2011, 9:10 am by Greg

Singer-songwriter Andrew Bird will be winging his way in the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall in Troy on Thursday, October 13. Opening the show at 8pm will be Dosh.

A former member of the Squirrel Nut Zippers, Bird plays guitar and violin – as well as displaying some mighty prodigious whistling skills – as he incorporates elements of jazz, Gypsy and classical music into his own unique brand of evocative, indie folk-rock. He’ll be rolling into Troy in support of his latest album, “Useless Creatures” on the Fat Possum label.

Priced at $33.50, tickets will go on sale to the general public at 11am on Friday.
