With her crystal-clear soprano voice and songs ranging from the humorous to the heartbreaking, Amy Collins has long been a popular mainstay on the Nippertown music scene.

But recently the long-time solo singer-songwriter put together her first band, the Whomevers – also featuring Mike Messitt, Bill Flynn and John Cromie – and now she’s finally gearing up to record her first full-length album using a Kickstarter Project to help fund the recording.

In addition to her band, Collins will join engineer Ted Malia at Black Dog Studio in Stillwater with a few special guest musicians – bassist Lorraine Waughn, fiddler Eileen Markand and multi-instrumentalist Mark Fredrick (of the Fighting 86s) – as well as vocalists Rosanne Raneri and Tom Flynn. The track listing for the album will be a combination of gorgeous Celtic traditional songs, modern folk and Amy’s original tunes.

With nine days of fundraising to go, the project is already 3/4 of the way to her goal of $2,000. Way to go, Amy. We’re rooting for ya!

You can also catch Amy & the Whomevers at Moon & River Cafe on the second Thursday of every month.

1. THE FIRST ALBUM I EVER BOUGHT WAS … Oh god, I don’t want to admit this… It was Shaun Cassidy’s 1976 self-titled album. It came with a poster, and I am afraid to say I also bought the Da Doo Ron Ron T-shirt. (Can’t Nippertown edit this answer so that I look cooler?)

2. THE FIRST CONCERT THAT I EVER SAW WAS … It was John Hartford in Manhattan Square Park in Rochester. My mom is an amazing musician and folk music lover, and she made sure we got a healthy dose of folk and roots music when we were growing up.
