Yes, another video from the marathon musical memorial for John Wisniewski that was held at the Hibernian Hall in Albany on Saturday, February 26. It’s the epic, 12-minute rendition of “Fifteen & Gone” by the reunited Stomplistics, who wrapped up the eight-hour celebration with their deep-dish funk groove.
The musicians are guitarist Michael Eck, percussionist Shawn Connors, saxman Cliff Lyons, trumpeter John Hines, drummer John Lapi, vocalist-bassist Dave Macks, guitarist Bernie Mulleda and percussionist Ralph Spillinger.
Over at Albany’s Hibernian Hall, last Saturday’s benefit concert to honor the late great John Wisniewski brought together a great batch of Nippertown’s finest musicians for a day-long blast of fine music. So much music, in fact, that we thought we’d give you some more.
Earlier this week, we published our review of the day’s festivities, as well as a video of Johnny Rabb (with his band, the Jailhouse Rockers, and a batch of friends) duetting with the Stomplistics’ Dave Macks on the classic “California Sun.”
Here’s another clip – Special guest John Tichy taking over the microphone for a rave-up on Buddy Holly’s “Midnight Shift” with Rabb and his wrecking crew:
The line-up on this one features: Scotty Mac, Dave Maswick, Mark Foster, Johnny Rabb, Buck Malen and John Tichy
“It’s like a who’s-was of the Albany music scene.”
Yes, last Saturday was something of an Oldtimers’ Day on the Nippertown scene, as family and friends packed into the Albany Hibernian Hall to celebrate the life of John Wisniewski, a longtime music fan, artist and bartender extraordinaire, who passed away earlier in the month.
And the musicians came out of the woodwork to play in honor of John and to help raise funds to pay the medical and hospital bills that he left behind.
Wizapalooza, a benefit for the late, great John Wisniewski, will take place at the Albany Hibernian Hall from 2-10pm on Saturday. There will be a silent auction, a free buffet dinner (while it lasts), a 50/50 raffle and one serious parade of live local music.
Here’s the tentative schedule of performers who are donating their talent in celebration of John’s life:
2-2:30pm: Folding Sky
2:45-3:15pm: Ramblin Jug Stompers
3:30-4:15pm: The Erin Harkes Band
4:30-5:15pm: Doc Scanlon’s Hot 4
5:30-6pm: The Franklin Micare Duo
6:15-7pm: Bert Pagano & the Big Idea / Downtime Alumni Reunion
7:10-7:15pm: Dave Maswick (of the Stony Creek Band)
7:15-8:15pm: Johnny Rabb’s Jailhouse Rockers with Commander Cody, John Tichy & Scotty Mac
8:30-9:30pm: The Stomplistics Reunion
9:30-10pm: Jam Session
Suggested donation for Wizapalooza is $20, and all proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward John’s unpaid hospital and medical expenses.
With bad blood, litigation and the ever popular “personal differences” apparently now out the window, the McKrells have announced a surprise reunion concert at The Egg in Albany at 7:30pm on Friday, April 8.
Singer-songwriter Kevin McKrell will once again lead the classic Celtic-bluegrass line-up of the McKrells – featuring guitarist Craig Vance, banjo master Chris Leske and fiddler Doug Moody – in an evening of rousing fan favorites from one of Nippertown’s most popular bands.
