Wavves Crash Into Kingston

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

Wavves – helmed by Nathan Williams – have been generating one of the biggest buzzes of the year on the indie scene ever since the fine folks at Fat Possum Records released their third album, “King of the Beach,” last month.

Paste Magazine declared, “‘King of the Beach’ finds him communing with his inner songwriter, forgoing nihilistic static for hi-def clarity.”

PopMatters.com concurs, adding, “An excellent backing band has resulted in meatier songs that are compositionally more knowing and experimentally more daring than anything Williams has produced before. Moreover, the album not only remains securely in the ‘scene’ with its love affair for old-school recording and Brian Wilson, but its visceral freneticism seems to anticipate the second wave of grunge.”

Don’t expect to see Wavves rolling into Albany anytime soon, but you can catch them just down the Thruway at 323 Wall Street in Kingston on Friday night. And it should be worth the drive…

Opening acts include Hank & Cupcakes, the Rassle and Ghost Mall. It’s an all-ages show; showtime is 6pm; and tix are $15 in advance; $20 at the door.
