MUSIC: Ranky Tanky @ Proctors’ GE Theatre, Schenectady. The Passport Series Music Haven at Proctors Passport Series presents the acclaimed band playing Gullah music of South Carolina’s Sea Islands. Led by “American Idol” alum Quiana Parler, the band’s self-titled debut album landed at No. 1 on Billboard’s jazz and contemporary jazz album charts. 7:30pm. $25.

MUSIC: Skip Parsons’ Riverboat Jazz Band @ The Fountain, Albany. Playing early style New Orleans jazz to help you kick off Mardi Gras weekend. 10pm. Also at 9:30pm on Saturday.

MUSIC: The Glen David Andrews Band @ Club Helsinki, Hudson. The vocalist-trombonist brings his jazzy, horn-laced New Orleans funk and soul back to town, firing up the Big Easy beat for Mardi Grass weekend. 9pm.

MUSIC: Nisky Dixie Cats @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. More traditional dixieland jazz to celebrate Mardi Gras weekend with the Crescent City sound. 8pm. $20.

FILM/TALK: “I Am Not Your Negro” @ UAlbany’s Page Hall, Albany. Directed by Raoul Peck and based on James Baldwin’s unfinished memoir, “Remember This House,” this 2017 Oscar-nominated documentary presents his meditations on the history of racism in the United States and his perspectives on slain civil rights leaders Medgar Evers, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, Jr. With commentary by Darryl Pinckney. 7pm.
