NEW CONCERTS: This Week’s New Concert News

Yes, electronica-pop duo Sylvan Esso are headed into MASS MOCA’s Hunter Center in March, but that concert sold out in a flash. Fortunately, if you didn’t manage to snag tix for that concert, it looks like you’ll have another chance when the dynamic duo of Amelia Meath (of the Bennington band Mountain Man) and producer Nick Sanborn (of psychedelic folksters Megafaun) make a return trip to Greater Nippertown for a show at the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park at 8pm on Monday, July 30. Tickets ago on sale at 10am on Friday (December 8), priced at $27.50 in advance; $30 at the door. But I wouldn’t count on there still being tickets available on the day of the show…

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Albany Capital Center has been open since March, and now it’s finally scheduled its first concert – featuring Dropkick Murphys with Agnostic Front and Bim Skala Bim. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10am on Friday (December 8).

Other new shows lined up at the Upstate Concert Hall include Gramatik with MOME at 8pm on Saturday, April 28 ($25 in advance; $30 at the door), and Sleeping With Sirens’ Gossip World Tour 2018 also featuring Set It Off and the Gospel Youth at 7:30pm on Tuesday, January 23 ($22 in advance; $25 at the door).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Saratoga Performing Arts Center has announced its first rock concert for the 2018 summer season – Foreigner, Whitesnake and Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (December 8).

Following the death of his longtime musical partner Troy Gentry in a helicopter accident in September, country singer Eddie Montgomery is carrying on the Montgomery Gentry name with his Here’s to You Tour, which is slated to make a stop at the Upstate Concert Hall at 8pm on Friday, March 2. Priced at $25 in advance; $28 at the door, tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (December 8). And WWE wrestling star Chris Jericho brings his hard-rocking band Fozzy to UCH at 6:30pm on Wednesday, April 4 on their Judas Rising Tour. Special guests on the bill include Through the Fire, Santa Cruz and Dark Sky Choir. On sale at 10am on Friday (December 8), tickets are $17 in advance; $20 at the door.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Palace Theatre welcomes singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile and her band in support of their upcoming album, By the Way, I Forgive You. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10am on Friday (December 8).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Troy Savings Bank Music Hall announced the double-bill concert of Martin Sexton and Joan Osborne. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10am on Thursday (December 7).

There’s been no official word yet from the folks at the Hangar on the Hudson in Troy, but according to the band’s website, Terry Adams & NRBQ are slated for a return engagement on Friday, December 29. (Would that be New Year’s Eve Eve Eve?) Stay tuned for ticket info and further details…

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Traditional Celtic band Lunasa will be joined by Natalie Merchant in concert at The Egg with the Americana duo Richie & Rosie opening the show.

The Linda has added a handful of new shows to the calendar, including hard-swingin’ jazz combo the Lucky Five, who play a swing dance on Friday, December 29. The evening’s festivities will kick off with a free hour-long swing dance lesson at 7pm and cap off with a complimentary glass of champagne to welcome 2018 in advance. Tickets are $20. Also at The Linda, Nashville-based Americana singer-songwriter Nora Jane Struthers takes the stage at 8pm on Friday, January 19, in support of her new album, Champion ($18), and blues guitarslinger Tinsley Ellis returns at 8pm on Friday, January 26 ($20).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: New concerts by jam band veterans Blues Traveler and multi-talented star of stage, film and television Alan Cumming have been announced for Great Barrington’s Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center. Tickets go on sale at 12noon on Friday, December 15.

Troy troubadour Sean Rowe is scheduled to step into the spotlight at the Egremont Barn in South Egremont at 8pm on Saturday, January 20. Tickets are on sale now, priced at $20.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Guitarslinger Dweezil Zappa and his band carry on the musical legacy of his father with his return to The Egg. Tickets are on sale now.

Guthrie/Bell Productions is throwing their annual Christmas party at Albany’s Hollow Bar + Kitchen at 8pm on Friday, December 22, featuring Eastbound Jesus with Eastern Highs. Tickets are on sale now priced at $12 in advance; $15 at the door. Also new on the Hollow’s concert calendar is acclaimed British singer-songwriter Declan McKenna, who makes a tour stop in support of his album What Do You Think About The Car? at 8:30pm on Saturday, February 24. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Saturday (December 9), priced at $15 in advance; $18 at the door.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: In honor of Elvis Presley’s birthday, Proctors’ GE Theatre in Schenectady is hosting “Memories of Elvis: The Ultimate Salute to the King of Rock and Roll,” featuring Elvis tribute artists Bill Cherry, Patrick Johnson and Matthew Boyce. Tickets are on sale now.

Deer Tick is returning to Greater Nippertown, bringing their Twice Is Nice Tour to Jupiter Hall in Guilderland at 9pm on Friday, February 23. $25 in advance; $30 at the door.

CANCELLED: Virtuoso Iranian percussionist Mohammad Reza Mortazavi was slated to perform in concert on Friday (December 8) at EMPAC at RPI in Troy, but the concert has been cancelled due to visa-processing delays.

The Joey Thomas Big Band celebrates the season with “Christmas, Sinatra Style” at the Van Dyck in schenectady at 8pm on Friday, December 22. Tickets are $15 in advance; $18 at the door.

CANCELLED: Originally scheduled for last Saturday night (December 2), Dana Fuchs’ concert at the College of Saint Rose’s Massry Center for the Arts was cancelled. The concert has not been re-scheduled.
