There is a new jazz concert series in Saratoga Springs, taking place at the intimate 50-seat Spring Street Gallery. Presented by Capital District Jazz, the Jazz at the Spring series takes place on the fourth Thursday of every month (except December).

The inaugural concert in the series was held last month, and it was sold out, featuring veteran clarinetist Brad Terry accompanied by Mark Kleinhaut on guitar and John Menegon on bass. Terry’s musical career has stretched over more than 60 years, starting with lessons as a teenager from friend and neighbor Benny Goodman. He then went on to perform with Dizzy Gillespie, Doc Cheatham, Buddy Tate and many others.

Bolstered by Kleinhaut’s and Menegon’s expert playing, Terry exhibited considerable clarinet chops, as well as a mighty talent for whistling, which was highlighted by a touching performance of that old warhorse, “Danny Boy.”

The upcoming concerts in the inaugural Jazz at Spring series are as follows:

October 26: Shiri Zorn, George Muscatello & Brian Melick
November 30: The Adam Siegel/Galen Pittman Quartet
January 25: Teri Roiger, Joel Frahm & John Menegon
February 22: Michael Musillami & Rich Syracuse
March 29: Joe Barna’s Sketches of Influence
