TALK: Awkwafina @ UAlbany Performing Arts Center’s Main Theater, Albany. She’s a rapper, comedian, television host, actress and author. She’s also a former UAlbany journalism student returning to campus to kick off the fall season of New York State Writers Institute events, engaging in discussion with The Times Union’s Steve Barnes about all manner of things, including the upcoming film “Ocean’s Eight,” in which she stars alongside Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Rihanna, Sarah Paulson, Mindy Kaling, Helena-Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway. 4:15pm. FREE.

MUSIC: Jenni Lyn @ the Cock n’ Bull, Galway. As a member of the award-winning, all-female bluesgrass band Della Mae, she’s graced the stage of Nashville’s beloved Ryman Auditorium, as well as festivals from Bonnaroo to Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival to Cambridge Folk Fest. Tonight the vocalist-mandolinist plays an intimate show in support of her new solo album, Burn Another Candle. 7:30pm.

THEATER: “Awake” @ EMPAC at RPI, Troy. Earlier this month theater artist Andrew Schneider served up two sold-out performances of his mindboggling, award-winning “YOUARENOWHERE” at EMPAC. Now he’s back with the world premiere of his follow-up. Be prepared for the unexpected. 7:30pm. $18; $13 students & seniors. Also at 7:30pm on Friday.

FUNDRAISER/MUSIC: Hurricane Harvey Benefit Concert @ Victory Christian Church, Colonie. Roy Fields is featured in an evening of worship and prayer for those affected by Hurricane Harvey. 7pm. FREE.

MUSIC: Tuba Skinny @ Colony, Woodstock. Drawing on a wide range of musical influences — from spirituals to Depression-era blues, from ragtime to traditional jazz — their sparkling sound evokes the rich musical heritage of their New Orleans home. 8pm. $15.
