MUSIC: The Robert Cray Band @ the Calvin Theatre, Northampton. In just over 40 years Cray and his band have recorded 20 studio releases, 15 of which have been on the Billboard charts, and played bars, concert halls, festivals and arenas around the world. There are five Grammys with Cray’s name on them, and he has a suitcase full of W.C. Handy blues awards. Four years ago Cray was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame. PARTICIPATORY READING: “Song of Myself” @ the Robert Burns Statue in Washington Park, Albany. To commemorate the birthday of Walt Whitman, the Poetry Motel Foundation presents the annual community reading of Whitman’s classic poem. Volunteers can sign up to read sections of the poem at the event. 6pm. FREE.

MUSIC: Opening Ceremony of the Lake George Elvis Festival @ Shepard Park, Lake George. The kickoff to the four-day fest of Elvis features performances by many of the headlining ETAs (that’s Elvis Tribute Artist). 7pm. FREE.

MUSIC: Circlesinging @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. The pioneering approach of Bobby McFerrin’s Circlesinging creates space for all singers to add their voice to the circle of sound. Improvisation is a practice that vocalist and music teacher Jeanine Ouderkirk illuminates through McFerrin’s fun, freeing, and limitless vocal playground. 7pm. $5.

OPERA ON SCREEN: “Tristan & Isolde” @ the Landmark Spectrum 8 Theatres, Albany. The Teatro dell’Opera di Roma’s production of Richard Wagner’s opera, conducted by Daniele Gatti and directed by Pierre Audi. 7pm. $15.
