COMIN’ SOON: New Concert Announcements

Just a few years ago Sawyer Fredericks was a young unknown singer-songwriter playing the open mic nights at Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs. Now he’s headed back to the recently renovated Caffe for a three-night stand during Memorial Day weekend (May 26-28). Grab your ticket pronto – if there are any still available.

Fusing together blues, soul and R&B, the Alexis P Suter Band comes roaring into The Linda in Albany at 8pm on Friday, March 10. Tickets are $15. Also new on the calendar at The Linda are sublime singer-songwriter Richard Shindell at 8pm on Friday, April 14 ($20); the return of Willie Nile at 8pm on Friday, April 21 ($20) and roots music faves the Bumper Jacksons with Michael Eck at 8pm on Saturday, April 22 ($15).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Freihofer’s Saratoga Jazz Festival has announced the line-up for the 2017 two-day fest at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, and it includes Chaka Khan, Jean-Luc Ponty, the Gipsy Kings, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Jacob Collier, Cecile McLorin Salvant, Quinn Sullivan, Maceo Parker, and lots more…

Jersey post-hardcore band Thursday lands at the Upstate Concert Hall on Friday, April 28 with Touche Amore, Basement and Cities Aviv kicking off the evening at 7:30pm. Tickets are $25 in advance; $29 at the door. Meanwhile, in support of their sophomore album, The Ride, British alt-rockers Catfish & the Bottlemen launch their North American tour at the Clifton Park club at 8pm on Tuesday, May 2. Tickets are $20 in advance; $23 at the door. Tickets for both shows go on sale at 10am on Friday (February 3).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: One of America’s finest living singer-songwriters John Prine is slated to step into the spotlight at the Palace Theatre. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10am on Friday (February 3).

Southern hip-hop is on tap at the Low Beat on Thursday, March 16 when Atlanta’s OG Maco and New Orleans’ Young Greatness take the stage. Levi Carter is slated to open the show at 6pm. Tickets are $20; $75 VIP. And the always outspoken, uncensorable Hamell on Trial is back for another three Wednesday run – 7pm on February 8, 15 & 22. Tickets are $10.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Chainsmokers bring their Memories: Do Not Open Tour to the Times Union Center with Emily Warren and openers Kiiara and K?D. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10am on Friday.

CHANGE OF VENUE: After just seven months in business, Rascals in Crossgates Mall has shuttered its doors for good. Country music group Parmalee was scheduled to play Rascals on Wednesday, February 8, but now the concert has been relocated to Jupiter Hall in Crossgates. Skeeter Creek opens the show at 7pm. Tickets are $20.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Tanglewood in Lenox announced two new concerts – Natalie Merchant and the Avett Brothers. Tickets are on sale now.

In support of his album, Lathe of Heaven, acclaimed tenor saxophonist Mark Turner brings his jazz quartet to Williams College’s Brooks-Rogers Recital Hall in Williamstown for a free concert at 8pm on Thursday, February 9.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Egg announced three new concerts – Enter the Haggis, Carl Palmer’s ELP Legacy and the double-bill of John McLaughlin and Jimmy Herring. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 11am on Friday (February 3).

Club Helsinki in Hudson plays host to Guilty Pleasure at 8:30pm on Saturday, April 1 ($20) and a Hudson Pride Foundation fundraiser with cabaret duo the Backdoor Boys at 7pm on Sunday, April 30 ($50).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Saratoga Performing Arts Center welcomes back Kings of Leon with Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats opening the show. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10am on Saturday (February 4).

New additions to the concert calendar at the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock include Buried Treasure featuring Bari Koral at 9pm on Friday, March 24 ($10) and Jamaican reggae artist Chronixx & Zinc Fence Redemption at 9pm on Saturday, April 29 ($30 in advance; $40 & $50 at the door).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: John Mayer is headed into Albany’s Times Union Center. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10am on Friday (February 3).

OPENERS: Los Angeles-based alt-pop trio Ocean Park Standoff has lined up a pair of Greater Nippertown opening slots – with Lolo at the Hangar on the Hudson in Troy on Sunday, February 26; and with Third Eye Blind and Silversun Pickups at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center on Saturday, July 1.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Classical crossover ensemble Rocktopia – featuring operatic vocalists, rock band, choir and orchestra – is scheduled to make their Greater Nippertown debut at Albany’s Palace Theatre. Tickets are on sale now.
