FILM: “Ironweed” @ UAlbany’s Page Hall, Albany. A hometown screening in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Hector Babenco’s film based on William Kennedy’s classic novel. With commentary and Q&A with Kennedy and post screening reception. 6:30pm. FREE.

MUSIC: Wilson Cables Coleman @ Massry Center for the Arts, Albany. Saxophonist Steve Wilson, pianist George Cables and bassist Ira Coleman team up an evening of elegant chamber jazz. With the Art D’Echo Trio. 7:30pm. $20; $10 students.

MUSIC: Jack DeJohnette Trio @ The Egg, Albany. The Jazz Hall of Fame drummer is joined by Ravi Coltrane (nominated for a Grammy earlier this week for Best Improvised Jazz Solo on the title track of the trio’s latest album, In Movement) and bassist Matthew Garrison. With the Indo-Pak Coalition led by saxophonist Rudresh Mahanthappa. 7:30pm. $36.

MUSIC: Dust Bowl Faeries @ the Low Beat, Albany. Ryder Cooley and her mascot spirit animal, Hazel the taxidermy sheep, leads her ethereal gothic-folk chamber band through the hypnotic selections of their self-titled debut album, released earlier this year. With Luis Mojica. 8pm. $6.

MUSIC: Melissa Etheridge’s Holiday Trio @ the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center, Great Barrington. One of rock’s great female singers, she’s got an Oscar as well as her Grammys. 8pm. $70, $100, $115 & $145.

THEATER: “Ipsa Dixit” @ EMPAC at RPI, Troy. It’s an evening-length work of theatrical chamber music by American composer Kate Soper. Exploring the intersection of music, language and meaning, the piece blends elements of monodrama, Greek theater and screwball comedy to skewer the treachery of language. 8pm. $18; $13 seniors & students.

MUSIC: Joe Lovano’s Birthday Bash @ The Falcon, Marlboro. The powerhouse jazz saxman celebrates his 64th birthday with Marilyn Crispell (piano), Dan Silverman (trombone), Ed Schuller (bass), George Schuller (drums), Judi Silvano (vocals), Peter Silverman (didgeridoo) and surprise guests… 7pm. MUSIC: Joan Osborne @ Club Helsinki, Hudson. From “(What If God Was) One of Us” to “Standing in the Shadows of Motown” and beyond, the multi-platinum selling recording artist and seven-time Grammy nominee brings the soul fire. 8pm.

MUSIC: Gin Wigmore @ the Hollow Bar & Kitchen, Albany. The Kiwi artist and musician rolls into town on her Let It Ride Tour in support of her new single “Dirty Mercy.” 9pm. $17.

MUSIC: Jeanne O’Connor & the New Standard @ Caffe Lena at Saratoga Arts, Saratoga Springs.
