COMIN’ SOON: New Concert Announcements

The Hangar on the Hudson is hosting the 20th anniversary reunion of the Greater Nippertown rockabilly cats Rocky Velvet at 8pm on Saturday, November 26. Tickets are $10 in advance; $15 at the door. Also new on the Hangar’s calendar are The Sea The Sea with Mikaela Davis and Eric Margan & Cara May Gorman at 8pm on Saturday, November 12 ($10); the annual Bill Kirchen Honky-Tonk Holiday Show at 8pm on Friday, December 2 ($20 in advance; $25 at the door); and the double bill of Americana-Primitive duo Swampcandy with Jeremiah Tall at 8pm on Saturday, December 10. Tickets are $10.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Their August concert at Albany’s Times Union Center was cancelled, but ZZ Top is headed to Greater Nippertown anyway… at Proctors in Schenectady. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10am on Friday (October 28).

Sick Puppies headline at the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park on Wednesday, December 14 with Trapt, Jim Breuer and the Loud & Rowdy and Citizen Zero opening the show at 7pm. Tickets are $15 in advance; $18 at the door. Also on tap at UCH, August Burns Red brings their 10th anniversary tour to town on Friday, February 17 with Protest the Hero, In Hearts Wake and ’68 opening the show at 7pm. Tickets are $23 in advance; $25 at the door.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Celtic favorites the High Kings and soulful Americana quartet the subdudes are both slated for return appearances at The Egg in Albany. Tickets for both shows go on sale at 11am on Friday (October 28).

Vapor in Saratoga Springs is hosting a free concert by up-and-coming country combo the Houston Bernard Band on Saturday, November 5. Also coming up at Vapor are the Four Seasons tribute band Let’s Hang On at 2 & 5pm on Sunday, December 4 ($20) and R&B star Ginuwine, who broke into the national spotlight 20 years ago with his hit debut album The Bachelor, at 9pm on Thursday, January 26 ($25).

New shows coming up at the Wood Theater in Glens Falls include Hey Jude…The Tribute at 7:30pm on Friday, November 25 ($30) and veteran folksinger Peter Yarrow at 7:30pm on Monday, November 28 ($46).

CANCELLED: Originally scheduled for Albany’s Times Union Center on Thursday, November 10, Novemberfest – featuring hip-hop stars T.I., Gucci Mane, Fetty Way and Kent Jones – has been cancelled due to “unforeseen circumstances.”

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The complete line-up for the 2017 Bridge Jazz Festival has finally been announced – the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Eldar at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall and Maceo Parker, Cyrille Aimee and the Chronicles at Albany’s Massry Center for the Arts. Tickets are on sale now…

Conducted by Jeffrey Vredenburg, the 60-voice Mendelssohn Club of Albany presents its annual holiday concert at The Egg at 7:30pm on Friday, December 16. The concert will also feature the Capital District Youth Chorale, conducted by Diane Warner. Tickets are $20.

If you missed Martin Sexton in concert at The Egg earlier this month, never fear, you’ll have another chance to catch him in concert when he makes a stop at the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock at 8pm on Friday, February 17. Tickets are on sale now, priced at $28, $40 & 448.

Everett Bradley is bringing his annual Holidelic show to Club Helsinki in Hudson, funkin’ up your holiday season with two shows – 9pm on Saturday, December 10 and 8pm on Sunday, December 11. Tickets are $25 & $30. Also at Club Helsinki, old-school vaudevillian Wally V. Hughes hosts “Wally’s Holiday Follies” at 6pm on Sunday, November 27 with a supporting cast that includes Tony Heiraldo, Ryder Cooley, Oxbow Road, Cameron Melville and Heather Fisch. Tickets are $15.

CANCELLED: Due to the recent death of co-headliner Buckwheat Zydeco, Marcia Ball’s concert at The Egg, which was originally slated for Friday, February 17, has now officially been cancelled. Refunds are available at the place of purchase.

The Funny Bone in Guilderland is hosting an impressive line-up of stand-up comics, including Jake Roberts at 7:30pm on Tuesday, November 15 ($20); Aries Spears on Friday-Sunday, November 18-20 ($23); Michael Winslow on Friday-Sunday, November 25-27 ($20); Arnez J on Friday & Saturday, November 2 & 3 ($25); Christopher Titus at 7:30pm on Wednesday, December 14 ($25); Corey Holcomb on Friday & Saturday, December 16 & 17 ($25); and Bob Marley at 7:30pm on Thursday, January 26 ($24).

OPENERS: Chastity Brown is slated to open for Ani DiFranco’s post-election concert at The Egg on Wednesday, November 9… California’s T Sisters have snagged the opening slot for the Wood Brothers at the Massry Center for the Arts in Albany on Friday, February 3.
