COMIN’ SOON: New Concert Announcements

The Moth & the Flame return to Greater Nippertown for a free all-ages show at Lucky Strike Social’s Jupiter Hall in Guilderland at 8pm on Thursday, December 1.

Written and created by musician and storyteller Julian Koster (Neutral Milk Hotel), The Orbiting Human Circus (of the Air) is the story of a mysteriously impossible variety show broadcast from the ballroom at the top of the Eiffel Tower and the janitor who longs to become a part of it. Koster & the Magic Tapes bring the show to the Hangar on the Hudson at 8pm on Thursday, November 10. Advance tickets are $15. Also coming up at The Hangar is the return of Wayne “The Train” Hancock at 8pm on Friday, November 11. Tickets are $20.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: There’s a hip-hop double-bill on tap at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs this weekend with Earl Sweatshirt and Junglepussy. Tickets are now on sale to the general public.

The Bearsville Theater in Woodstock has added a handful of new concerts to its holiday schedule, including the hometown Americana duo of Larry Campbell & Teresa Williams at 9pm on Saturday, December 10 ($25, $30 & $35); Judy Collins’ “Holidays & Hits” at 8pm on Thursday, December 22 ($25, $55 & $60); Hasidic reggae singer-rapper Matisyahu’s “Festival of Light” at 8pm on Wednesday, December 28 ($30 in advance; $35 at the door); and Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds’ New Year’s Eve bash at 9:30pm on Saturday, December 31 ($40).

Saratoga Arts Center in Saratoga Springs is hosting a benefit concert for the Adirondack Folk School at 7pm on Friday, October 14, featuring folk favorite Dan Berggren with Alex Smith. Tickets are $15 in advance; $20 at the door. The Arts Center is also hosting a Caffe Lena concert with Chris Smither at 7pm on Thursday, October 27. Advance tickets are $28.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The schedule of bands for this weekend’s free Troy Chowderfest has been announced including Local 518 faves Cryin’ Out Loud, the Getdown, Michael Eck, Pony in the Pancake and more.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Albany’s Palace Theatre welcomes Led Zeppelin tribute band Get the Led Out. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (October 7).

The Parlor Room in Northampton has an impressive line-up of new bookings, including Jim Lauderdale at 7pm on Thursday, November 3 ($20 in advance; $25 at the door); Larry Campbell & Teresa Williams with Marie Danielle at 8pm on Saturday, November 5 ($25in advance; $30 at the door); Adrian Legg at 7pm on Sunday, November 6 ($20 in advance; $25 at the door); Charlie Parr at 7pm on Friday, November 11 ($15 in advance; $18 at the door); and Mark Erelli at 7pm on Saturday, November 12 ($15 in advance; $18 at the door).

Newly announced shows at the Hollow Bar + Kitchen in Albany include CRX at 9pm on Tuesday, November 15 in support of their upcoming Columbia Records album New Skin; July Talk at 8pm on Monday, December 12 ($10.27 in advance; $12 at the door); and Marco Benevento on Friday, February 3 ($TBA).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Universal Preservation Hall in Saratoga Springs is hosting Druthers Rocks UPH: A Beer and Music Festival this weekend featuring headliners the North & South Dakotas, as well as a number of other Local 518 favorites.

Club d’Elf brings their Moroccan-drenched, electronic, dubbed-out funk to Club Helsinki in Hudson for their CD release party at 9pm on Saturday, January 14. They’ll be joined by special guest keyboardist John Medeski. Tickets are $20 in advance; $25 at the door.

POSTPONED: Originally scheduled for 8pm on Sunday (October 9), Cabinet’s concert at Holyoke’s Gateway City Arts has been postponed. New date TBA…

OPENERS: Bryan Thomas will open for Fantastic Negrito at the Cohoes Music Hall on Thursday, October 13… The Wrecks have been added to the bill, kicking off the free concert by Nothing But Thieves at Lucky Strike Social in Guilderland at 8pm on Thursday, October 20… Courtney Cole will be warming up for Eric Paslay at the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park on Friday, November 11… Lowland Hum has been tapped as the opening act for Josh Ritter at the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock on Saturday, November 12…
