What’s Up with The Alt?

Remember The Alt? The new publication that’s been described by publishers variously as an “alternative news weekly” and an “arts and culture weekly”? The one that’s positioning itself to take over where the late Metroland left off?

When plans for the The Alt were first announced back in July, publishers – the triumverate of The Daily Gazette, Proctors and Overit – hoped to have the new alternative news weekly on stands and online by October.

There’s still no word on when that might actually happen, but it appears that The Alt is indeed making progress. Former Metroland staff writer David King is leaving his position as New York State Government Editor at Gotham Gazette at the end of the month (which would be any day now) to take over as the editor of The Alt.

And don’t be surprised if more than a few other former Metroland writers’ bylines pop up in The Alt, too…
