    I was at the ’85 R.E.M./ Three O’Clock concert, and it was awful, just awful. Still one of the worst nights of music I’ve witnessed. The opener was a yawn–pretentious at best. As for Stipe and company: lightweight playing and often out of tune–borderline amateur. I couldn’t believe it was the same band that had a decent record at the time, FABLES OF THE RECONSTRUCTION, which got them some major FM airplay.

    In contrast, the 2004 show by Barrence Whitfield was superb. He can do no wrong! I hope The Hangar will book him in the near future.
