MUSIC: Dan Tyminski @ The Egg’s Swyer Theatre, Albany. Maybe you know him as a member of Alison Krauss & Union Station. Maybe you know him as a member of the Lonesome River Band. Maybe you know him as the singing voice of George Clooney in “O Brother Where Art Thou.” However you know him, the 14-time Grammy Award winner comes to town tonight to share the stage with his former bandmate Ronnie Bowman. 8pm. $40.

MUSIC: John Hiatt @ the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center, Great Barrington. John Hiatt, who The Los Angeles Times calls “one of rock’s most astute singer-songwriters of the last 40 years,” is a master lyricist and satirical storyteller. Hiatt weaves hidden plot twists into fictional tales ranging in topics including redemption, relationships, growing older and surrendering, on his terms. 8pm. $30-$70.

MUSIC: Gurf Morlix @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. One of the most talented and active performer-producers in roots music, Austin-based Gurf Morlix has produced award-winning albums for Lucinda Williams, Robert Earl Keen, Mary Gauthier, Ray Wylie Hubbard and others, in addition to making his own music, including Eatin’ at Me, his new (and eighth) acclaimed album. 8pm. $24.

MUSIC: Bob Schneider @ Club Helsinki, Hudson. The rock singer-songwriter (and former frontman for Ugly Americans) is a six-time Austin Musician of the Year known for his eclectic musical styles and as a startlingly entertaining performer. At this year’s Austin Music Awards, he snagged the top trophies for Musician of the Year, Song of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Album of the Year, Male Vocalist, Ongoing Music Residency – even Best Album Art and Best Poster. 9pm.

READING: Richard Russo @ UAlbany’s Page Hall, Albany. The Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist – born in Johnstown and raised in Gloversville – is a master at capturing the joy and tribulations of small town life. He’s the author of “Nobody’s Fool” (1993), “Empire Falls” (2001) and “That Old Cape Magic” (2009), as well as “Everybody’s Fool,” a sequel to “Nobody’s Fool,” slated for publication this month. 8pm. FREE.

MUSIC/FUNDRAISER: “Moonlight Howl” @ Jackson’s Old Chatham House, Old Chatham. Presented by Nassau Veterinary Clinic, it’s an evening of fun, snacks, raffle and live high-energy, acoustic, roots music by Shine Hill Road to benefit the Companion Animal Placement Program. 7pm. FREE.

MUSIC: Kim Simmonds & Savoy Brown @ the Van Dyck, Schenectady. Bandmates have come and gone over the past half century, but guitar great Kim Simmonds has always been at the helm of the veteran British blues pioneers. 7 & 9pm. $25.

MUSIC: Foreigner @ the Calvin Theatre, Northampton. Yes, they’ve got 10 multi-platinum albums and 16 Top 30 hits, but these days founder-lead guitarist Mick Jones makes only sporadic appearances with the band (he was a no-show last week at Proctors), which means that it’s basically just a Foreigner tribute band with no members from the band’s hit-making days. With Colorway. 8pm. $55, $65 & $75.

THEATER: “A Trip to Bountiful” @ Capital Repertory Theatre, Albany. Join the inspiring pilgrimage to the small town of Bountiful, Texas with Carrie Watts, the charming, aging widow who escapes her controlling daughter-in-law and son’s three-room Houston apartment to visit her childhood home one last time. 8pm. $20-$55. MUSIC: Bright Dog Red @ the Madison Theater, Albany. The Albany-based band plays a rare hometown gig, fusing together electronica, jazz, hip-hop, psychedelia and noise. They’ve been described as “Mahavishnu Orchestra meets Digable Planets,” which sounds like a mighty cool mash-up. 8pm. $15; $10 students & seniors.

MUSIC: SIMO @ the Hangar On the Hudson, Troy. Rolling Stone says, “Simo spins soulful psychedelic blues rock with an improvisational bent reminiscent of the Grateful Dead and Stevie Ray Vaughan.” 8pm. $10.
