COMIN’ SOON: New Concert Announcements

The Struts will be struttin’ into the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park on Thursday, July 21. Opening the show at 8pm will be Dorothy, who just played a free show at the Low Beat two weeks ago. Priced at $10.27 in advance; $12 at the door, tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (April 15). Also at UCH, Sonata Arctica and Dark Tranquility co-headline a ferocious night of rockin’ on Tuesday, November 8. Joining them will be Swallow the Sun, Leaves Eyes, Omnium Gatherum, Enforcer and Starkill. The music kicks off at 5pm, and tickets are on sale now for $30 in advance; $35 at the door.

In Northampton, the Calvin Theatre has announced a handful of intriguing new shows, including New Orleans musical ambassador Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue at 8pm on Tuesday, June 21 ($26.50 & $36.50); Colvin & Earle: An Evening with Shawn Colvin & Steve Earle at 8pm on Saturday, July 16 ($39.50 & $55); and post-rock kingpins Explosions in the Sky at 8pm on Tuesday, September 20 ($25 & $35).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: In recent years he’s played more intimate venues around Greater Nippertown (including the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall and The Egg’s Hart Theatre), but now Bryan Adams is slated to step back out on the big stage at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center for a pavilion-only concert this summer. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (April 15).

The four members of the Ukuladies don’t simply play ukuleles. They also play fiddle, spoons, flute, trombone kazoo, pennywhistle, cymbal, toy concertina, musical saw, doorbell, harmonica, toy flute, washboard, glockenspiel, banjo, ocarina, coconuts, toy piano and tap shoes. And they’re not simply a musical act – they’re a full-scale entertainment featuring singing, dancing, acting, comedy and equine fire-breathing. Find out for yourself when they play the Benenson Visitors Center at Art Omi in Ghent at 5:30pm on Saturday (April 16). Tickets are $10.

SOLD OUT: At The Egg, upcoming concerts by America (on Friday, April 15) and Judy Collins (Saturday, May 14) are now officially sold out.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: MASS MoCA in North Adams has announced a summer schedule of 16 new concerts, films, comedy and more, including indie rockers Luna, super soulman Charles Bradley, the Suitcase Junket, jam band favorites Rubblebucket, the swinging Ghost Train Orchestra, Dan Zanes’ Lead Belly Project, reggae favorite Everton Blender, the annual Bang On a Can summer residency, the adventurous vocal group Roomful of Teeth, the all-female Mariachi Flor de Toloache and much more.

The Linda in Albany hosts CD release parties for Jocelyn & Chris Arndt at 8pm on Saturday, May 14 ($15) and Jim Gaudet & the Railroad Boys with special guest fiddler Sara Milonovich at 8pm on Friday, May 20 ($15). Also, The Linda presents its annual Phil Ochs Song Night at 8pm on Saturday, May 21, featuring the Burns Sisters, Cliff Eberhardt, Colleen Kattau, John Flynn and and the duo of Horowitz & Malkine, co-hosted by Sonny Ochs and Wanda Fischer. Tickets are $18.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Three new shows have been added to the concert schedule at The Egg – swing jazz band the Hot Sardines, piano man George Winston and the plugged-in, electrified version of Hot Tuna. Tickets are on sale now.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Blues-rock guitarslinger Kenny Wayne Shepherd and his band are returning to The Egg in Albany this summer. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (April 15).

POSTPONED: The opening of SPAC’s 2016 summer concert season is still two months away, but the Spa City amphitheater has already suffered its first cancellation. Janet Jackson has postponed her Unbreakable Tour – including her Saratoga Performing Arts Center concert that was originally scheduled for Friday, August 26. New dates for 2017 will be announced at a later time, and tickets will be honored for the re-scheduled dates. Refunds are available at the place of purchase.

Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock has announced three more new concerts – Joan Osborne at 8pm on Saturday, June 11 ($50 & $65); tribute band Early Elton (featuring Jeff Kazee and John Conte (both of Southside Johnny) and Rich Pagano (the Fab Faux) playing Tumbleweed Connection in its entirety at 8pm on Saturday, July 2 ($30 & $35); and the one and only Richard Thompson at 8pm on Saturday, July 16 ($45 & $60).

POSTPONED: The Crystal Bowersox concert that was originally slated for last Saturday (April 9) at Club Helsinki in Hudson was postponed to Sunday, October 16 due to illness.

The Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton welcomes Danny Wood (of New Kids on the Block) at 7pm on Friday, May 27 ($25 in advance; $30 at the door). Tickets go on sale on Friday. Also Shawn Mullins comes to the Iron Horse at 7pm on Thursday, July 14 ($20 in advance; $25 at the door).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The co-headlining double-bill tour of Counting Crows and Rob Thomas is slated to land at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center with K. Phillips as the opening act. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (April 15).

New additions to the concert calendar at Club Helsinki in Hudson include two Nashville acts Joe Fletcher & the Wrong Reasons and Brian Wright at 8pm on Thursday, April 29 ($12 in advance; $15 at the door); jazz group Bobby Previte & the Visitors at 9pm on Friday, June 17 ($TBA); Dylan LeBlanc at 8pm on Sunday, June 19 ($12 in advance; $15 at the door); Boston-based rock singer-songwriter Laney Jones & the Spirits at 8pm on Thursday, June 23 ($TBA).

OPENERS: Closet Classics (featuring Kenny Hohman and Lori Friday of Super 400) have been tapped to open for Robin Trower at The Egg at 8pm on Wednesday, April 27… Guitarist Grant Gordy – formerly of the David Grisman Quintet – is slated to open for Grammy Award-winning multi-instrumentalist and all-around bluegrass star Tim O’Brien at Club Helsinki in Hudson at 9pm on Saturday, June 11… Also at Club Helsinki, Rusty Belle (the brother-sister duo of Matt & Kate Lorenz) will kick off the evening for singer-songwriter Jeffrey Foucault at 8pm on Sunday, June 12.
