Yes, April is Jazz Appreciation Month, and here’s a round-up of some of the top jazz shows around Greater Nippertown this weekend:

TODAY (FRIDAY, APRIL 8)
WCDB-FM’s 38th Anniversary: Jazz Night @ the Low Beat, Albany
UAlbany’s radio station celebrates its 38th anniversary with three homegrown Local 518 bands – We B3; the quartet of Brian Patneaude, George Muscatello, Rich Syracuse and Jeff Siegel; and Michael Benedict & Bopitude. 7pm. $10.

Elizabeth Woodbury Kasius & Heard @ Carmen’s Cafe, Troy
Original world music with jazz roots, influences from West Africa, Brazil, places in between and points beyond… 6 & 8pm. $5.

The Bryan Brundige Trio @ BSP Lounge, Kingston.
The trombonist fires up an evening of hot jazz, swing and dancin’. 7pm. $10.

SATURDAY (APRIL 9)
The Colette Michaan Quartet @ the Madison Theater, Albany
Colette Michaan and her world jazz quartet draw inspiration from the music of North and West Africa, Cuba, the Caribbean Bayaka Pygmy, Gnaoua, Indian, Arab, and the music of Cape Verde. Accompanying her will be Luisito Quintero on percussion, Gabriel Chakarji on keyboards and Jorge Bringas on bass. 7pm. $20.

The Keith Pray Quartet @ the Van Dyck, Schenectady
Saxman-about-town Keith Pray will be joined by special guest pianist Enrique Haneine, whose most recent album Instants of Time on the Elegant Walk label was released earlier this year and has already reached No. 1 on the CMJ jazz charts. Rounding out the foursome will be bassist John Menegon and drummer Jeff Siegel. 8pm. $15.

Esperanza Spalding: Emily’s D+Evolution @ the Calvin Theatre, Northampton
This definitely ain’t no ordinary jazz concert. The four-time Grammy Award-winning bassist-vocalist-composer brings her latest album Emily’s D+Evolution to the stage. It’s an audio portrait stretching Spalding beyond music and into storytelling through acting, staging and movement. 8pm. $36 & $46.

SUNDAY (APRIL 10)
10th Annual Jazz Appreciation Month Concert @ Proctors’ Robb Alley, Schenectady
The Schenectady-Amsterdam Musical Union’s 10th Annual Jazz Appreciation Month Concert features the Dylan Canterbury Quintet followed by Colleen Pratt & Friends. The Jazz Journalists Association will also present its 2016 Jazz Hero award to Leslie Hyland, a longtime member of the board of directors of A Place for Jazz. 4-7pm. FREE.
