Movies ‘n’ Music: The Return of the Silent Film Spectacular

The Albany Public Library Main Branch is bringing back the Silent Film Spectacular for the spring season. Here’s how it works: A silent movie is screened, while Greater Nippertown musicians are enlisted to perform a live, original soundtrack to accompany the film.

The spring series takes place at 7pm on Wednesdays throughout the month of April. Admission is free.

Wednesday (April 6)
Movie: “A Message From Mars” (1913)
Music: Nelson Esposito Quintana with Bob Resnick
The 1913 film follows a Martian who travels to Earth to cure a selfish man and is believed to be the first full-length science fiction movie made in the United Kingdom.

Wednesday, April 13
Movie: “Battleship Potemkin” (1925)
Music: Matt Weston
The 1925 film is a fictionalized account of a Russian naval strike that ended in a riot at the Battleship Potemkin.

Wednesday, April 20
Movie: “Clash of the Wolves” (1925)
Music: Kimono Dragons
Famous movie dog Rin Tin Tin stars in this 1925 film about a wolf pack that terrorizes residents after being driven into their territory by a wildfire.

Wednesday, April 27
Movie: “The General” (1926)
Music: Ryan Devine and Justin Fuld
This 1926 Buster Keaton film follows a Union soldier who must rescue his beloved train and his best girl during the Civil War.
