Two New Local 518 Live Performance Venues?

The Cohoes Music Hall and the Albany Annex are both hoping to gear up with a full calendar of events within the next year.

The Cohoes Music Hall has been surprisingly quiet since C-R Productions cancelled its 2014-15 season after a dozen years of musical theater in the venue. The Music Hall hosted the Bopitude Drum Battle in November and guitarist Tim Reynolds in January. And there are three more concerts on the Music Hall’s upcoming calendar – the New Riders of the Purple Sage on Friday, April 1; Amy Helm with Connor Kennedy & Minstrel on Friday, April 22; and Alejandro Escovedo with Lucette on Wednesday, May 11.

But now, Albany’s Palace Theatre has signed on to take over the management of the 385-seat Cohoes Music Hall in September, planning to host 60 events in the first year. GO HERE to read more…

Meanwhile, Chris Pratt and Alessio Depoli purchased the former Jillian’s building on Albany’s North Pearl Street in February. They plan to open the Albany Annex, featuring a new second floor event space, which would host live music and comedy in a 300-400 capacity venue. Pratt and Depoli – who also own the Barrel Saloon, Public House 42, the Pearl Street Pub and the Capital American Eatery & Lounge – cite Club Helsinki in Hudson as a model for their new venue. All of which means Greater Nippertown is about to welcome two new performance venues of almost identical size. Hmmmm…
