Young Noble Gentlemen – the Albany hip-hop/R&B duo of Lee Reh and Rah-mene McDuffie – took top honors in Above the Influence’s Teens Make Music songwriting competition.

Sponsored by MusiCares and the GRAMMY Foundation, the contest was open to musicians between the ages of 14-18, who were asked to submit an original piece of music that celebrates life above the influence, or brings attention to the real-life consequences of substance abuse. And YNG took first prize in the nationwide contest with their song “Fight.” (Hear it below…)

And as part of their prize package, they’ve won tickets to the Grammy Awards at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and numerous other music industry events during the week leading up to the Grammy Awards later this month.

In order to raise funds to cover the expense of the trip to LA, a page has been set up and will be accepting donations through Tuesday (February 9).

But if you really want to find out what all the YNG buzz is about, just be at the Howe Branch of the Albany Public Library at 4pm today (Wednesday, February 3) when YNG will perform and talk about their music.
