Jon Cleary Cleans Up at OffBeat Music Awards

Piano man Jon Cleary was born in Kent, England, but he’s clearly got the spirit of the Crescent City coursing through his veins.

Last week at the Best of the Beat Awards – sponsored by OffBeat, New Orleans’ prestigious monthly music magazine – Cleary was the man of the hour, walking off with trophies for Best Piano/Keyboards Player and Song of the Year (for “Boneyard”). He also snagged top honors as the Allen Toussaint Songwriter of the Year and the big award as Artist of the Year. And if all that wasn’t enough, OffBeat declared Cleary’s latest album GoGo Juice to be Album of the Year. (The album has also been nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Regional Roots Music category.)

Cleary seems to have recently discovered Greater Nippertown, and we’re thrilled that he has. He played a solo show at the Cock ‘N Bull in Galway in August and brought his band – the Absolute Monster Gentlemen – along to usher in 2016 with a New Year’s Eve show at Club Helsinki in Hudson.

And that’s not all… Cleary and his band are returning next month to play concerts at the Iron Hose Music Hall in Northampton on Tuesday, February 23 and the Falcon in Marlboro on February 27. And then, of course, as we announced last week, Cleary and his band will be back in town again this summer as featured main-stage artists at Freihoffer’s Saratoga Jazz Festival at SPAC on Sunday, June 26.

Let the good times roll…
