COMIN’ SOON: New Concert Announcements

He earned two Grammy nominations earlier this week (Best Improvised Jazz Solo and Best Jazz Instrumental Album), and now 12-year-old jazz piano wunderkind Joey Alexander and his trio are returning to Greater Nippertown for a concert at the Woodstock Community Center in Woodstock at 7:30pm on Saturday, January 30. Tickets are priced at $40 & $50 (UPDATE, 12/21: $35) and are available here

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band are headed back to the Times Union Center in Albany in support of the new sprawling seven-disc set, The Ties That Bind: The River Collection. Priced at $58, $108 & $158, tickets go on sale to the general public at 10am on Friday (December 11).

The Linda has bolstered its spring concert calendar with three new shows – the Foghorn Stringband with Mike & Ruthy at 8pm on Friday, February 12 ($20); the western swing trio Hot Club of Cowtown at 8pm on Thursday, March 3 ($20); and the return of rockin’ singer-songwriter Willie Nile at 8pm on Saturday, March 12 ($20).

Hometown Troy boy Sean Rowe teams up with the Sea the Sea to play a benefit concert for Joseph’s House and Shelter at 8pm on Saturday, December 19 at the Takk House in Troy. Tickets are $25.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Alt-rockers Deer Tick are returning to Greater Nippertown for their first Local 518 theater concert at The Egg’s Swyer Theatre in Albany. Mutual Benefit opens the show. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 11am on Friday (December 11).

Rockabilly Queen and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Wanda Jackson was forced to cancel her concert last weekend at the Cohoes Music Hall due to injury, but she’s apparently on the road to recovery, and she’s now scheduled to step into the spotlight at Club Helsinki in Hudson at 8pm on Thursday, March 24. Ticket prices TBA.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Troy Savings Bank Music Hall announced two new concerts – nouveau flamenco guitarist Ottmar Liebert with his band Luna Negra and the close harmony Americana duo the Milk Carton Kids. Tickets for both shows go on sale to the general public at 10am on Monday (December 14).

WCDB-FM is presenting the double-bill of former Hudson Valley rockers What Moon Things with special guests Dirty Dishes at the Low Beat in Albany at 7:30pm on Thursday, January 21. Advance tickets are currently available for $10.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Egg also announced three more new concerts for the 2016 calendar – Celtic fusion band Gaelic Storm, guitar virtuoso Kaki King and the swingin’ John Pizzarelli Quartet. Tickets go on sale at 11am on Friday (December 11).

SOLD OUT: The concert by Matt & Kim with Good Old War and Grizfolk at the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park at 7with on Saturday, December 19 is now officially sold out. No tickets will be available at the door.

Ithaca electronic rock trio Jimkata will release In Motion, their third full-length album and sixth release overall, on February 12, and in support of the new album the band will take over the stage at the Hollow Bar + Kitchen in Albany at 9:30pm on Saturday, February 20. Tickets are $12 in advance; $15 at the door. Also newly slated at the Hollow are Ra Ra Riot, scheduled to land at the downtown Albany club on Wednesday, March 2. Ticket prices TBA.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Superstar singer-songwriter James Taylor makes his annual return to Tanglewood in Lenox for a two-night stand this summer. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Sunday, January 17.

State Champs and Neck Deep co-headline the show at the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park at 6:30pm on Sunday, March 13, with support acts Knuckle Puck and Like Pacific. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (December 11), priced at $17 in advance; $20 at the door. Also on Tap at UCH are Basement with Turnstile, Defeater and Colleen Green at 7pm on Tuesday, April 26. Tickets are on sale now, priced at $16 in advance; $20 at the door.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Egg added four more new concerts – a homecoming concert by jazz vibraphonist Stefon Harris & Sonic Creed; Jamaican jazz pianist Monty Alexander with guitar great Frank Vignola and guest vocalist Caterina Zapponi; the classic rock double-bill of Leon Russell and Dave Mason; and Enter the Haggis with the Ghost of Paul Revere. Tickets for those concerts are currently on sale.

The Mountain Goats are headed into the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock for an all-ages show at 9pm on Friday, April 1. Tickets are $25 in advance; $30 at the door and go on sale on Friday (December 11).

OPENERS: Kinsey is slated to open for Elvis Perkins at Club Helsinki in Hudson at 8pm on Thursday (December 10).
