COMIN’ SOON: This Week’s New Concert Announcements

Led by frontman Matthew Ramsey, the country-rock quintet Old Dominion rolls into the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park at 8pm on Friday, December 18, playing songs they wrote for the Band Perry, Keith Urban and Luke Bryan, as well as songs from their own self-titled EP. Tickets are $18 in advance ($20 at the door) and go on sale at 10am on Friday (September 25). Also newly announced at UCH are the Buygore Tour featuring Borgore at 8pm on Wednesday, October 28 ($20 in advance; $25 at the door; on sale now); headbangin’ dance music hero Tommy Trash on Saturday, November 5 ($20 in advance; $25 at the door; on sale at 2pm on Thursday); Brillz with Party Favor, Ghastly and Willy Joy at 8pm on Thursday, November 19 ($15 for the first 600 tickets; $20 thereafter; on sale at 12noon on Thursday); and Ice Nine Kills with Wage War and the White Noise at 6:15pm on Sunday, November 22 ($10 in advance; $13 at the door).

As previously announced, San Fermin will be making a tour stop at MASS MoCA in North Adams on December 5, but you may not have to wait that long to catch ’em in action. The band is scheduled to play Skidmore College’s Zankel Music Center in Saratoga Springs at 8pm on Saturday, October 24. Although tickets are initially on sale only to Skidmore students, if there are tickets still available at the door, they will go on sale to the general public for $10.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Led by mandolin master Chris Thile, the wildly eclectic, genre-busting acoustic group the Punch Brothers are headed into the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall. Priced at $39 & $49, tickets go on sale to the general public at 10am on Friday (September 25).

Bearsville Theater in Woodstock has added a batch of mighty tasty new concerts, including Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe (performing Prince’s Dirty Mind in its entirety) at 9pm on Friday, October 30 ($30); Larry Campbell & Teresa Williams at 9pm on Saturday, December 12 ($25, $30 & $35); and another concert by the Punch Brothers at 8pm on Monday, December 14 ($40).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Rockabilly queen and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Wanda Jackson will play the first concert in a looong time at the Cohoes Music Hall. The Lustre Kings open.

If you weren’t quick enough to snap up tickets for J.D. McPherson’s recent, rollickin’, sold-out concert at The Hangar, you’ll have another chance to catch him and his band in action when they grab the spotlight at Club Helsinki in Hudson at 8pm on Thursday, October 8. Nicole Atkins opens the show, and tickets are $25 & $35. Also new on Club Helsinki’s calendar, the Brubeck Brothers Quartet – featuring Dave Brubeck’s sons Chris and Dan – jazz up the club at 8pm on Sunday, October 25. Tickets are $25 in advance; $30 at the door.

In Northampton, the Academy of Music has a bunch of fine shows on tap, including Patty Griffin at 7:30pm on Tuesday, October 6 ($35-$45); the Wood Brothers at 7:30pm on Wednesday, October 7 ($25-$35); Josh Ritter & the Royal City Band at 7:30pm on Wednesday, October 21 ($30-$35); Dave Alvin & Phil Alvin & the Guilty Ones at 7pm on Saturday, October 24 ($20-$25); and Joe Jackson at 8pm on Thursday, October 29 ($48.50-$58.50).

Blues-rock behemoth Popa Chubby returns to Greater Nippertown for a show at The Hangar in Troy at 8pm on Friday, November 13. Tickets are $17 in advance; $22 at the door.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Egg announced four new concerts – the David Bromberg Big Band, Greg Brown, Judy Collins and Roger McGuinn. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Tuesday (September 29).

In the Valley Below and PearlPalooza faves the Moth & the Flame are teaming up at the Hollow Bar + Kitchen in Albany at 9pm on Monday, October 19. Tickets are $12 in advance; $15 at the door.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Grateful Dead tribute band Dark Star Orchestra is slated for a return trip to Albany’s Palace Theatre. Tickets are on sale now.

Jazz saxophonist-composer Sharel Cassity will be joined by Michael Benedict on drums, Larry Ham on piano and Mike Lawrence on bass in concert at the Van Dyck in Schenectady on Friday, October 9. Doors open at 8pm, and tickets are $15.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Led by multi-instrumentalists John Kruth and Jeff Greene, NYC’s TriBeCaStan brings their totally weird and wonderful brand of world music to Freedom Square in Troy on Saturday, headlining the free StoryHarvest Festival. The Joe Barna Quartet also joins in the festivities.

RE-SCHEDULED: The concert by Bully at Club Helsinki – which was originally slated for last Saturday (September 19) – has now been re-scheduled for 9pm on Friday, January 8.

OPENERS: French Horn Rebellion opens for Robert DeLong at Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park at 8pm on Saturday, October 31… Jonah Tolchin has snagged the opening slot for Joseph Arthur at Club Helsinki in Hudson at 8pm on Sunday, November 15.
