The summer season of Albany’s free Alive at Five concerts in Jennings Landing come to a close tonight with one final blast from the thinking man’s metal band Blue Oyster Cult and the merry pranksters of ’80s pop culture Blotto.

The show is a summer re-run of sorts, as both bands teamed up to play one of the first Alive at Five concerts ever held in the Corning Preserve, back on July 18, 1996.

But the connection actually goes back much further than that. BOC guitarmaster Buck Dharma played the solo on Blotto’s hit “Metal Head,” and he also made a guest appearance in the music video for the song. And in February and March of 1983, Blotto and Blue Oyster Cult teamed up for the notorious Blöt and Blue Tour through the Northeast and Midwest.

And the tale continues at 5pm today (Thursday, August 6)…
