COMIN’ SOON: New Concert Announcements

The Linda in Albany is hosting the return of the one and only Kinky Friedman at 8pm on Friday, October 16. The Kinkster will be amblin’ into Nippertown in support of his new album, The Loneliest Man I Ever Met, slated for release on October 2. The album – his first all-new studio album in nearly 40 years – features never-heard-before Kinky originals, as well as covers from the songbags of Tom Waits, Warren Zevon and Willie Nelson. Bruce Molnar opens the show. Tickets are $28. Meanwhile, also headed into The Linda are the Hot Club of Saratoga at 8pm on Saturday, November 14 ($12) and singer-songwriter Steve Forbert at 8pm on Friday, November 20 ($25).

The Detroit-based band Jr Jr (formerly known as Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.) is headed into the Hollow Bar + Kitchen in Albany on Saturday, November 7, in support of their upcoming album, simply titled Jr Jr. Joining them for the Albany show will be Brothertiger, opening the show at 8pm. Tickets are $10.27. Also new at the Hollow are New Orleans rockers the Revivalists, who take over the spotlight at 9pm on Thursday, November 5, in support of their new album, Men Amongst Mountains. Tickets are $15.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The big, free, all-day Pearlpalooza music festival will be taking over Albany’s North Pearl Street again, and this year’s line-up features Matisyahu, the Moth & the Flame, Until the Ribbon Breaks and Turbo Fruits, as well as Local 518 faves Wild Adriatic and Better By Morning. At least one more band will be added to the line-up in the near future.

New Orleans piano pounder Jon Cleary slips into the Cock ‘n Bull in Galway for a solo show at 7pm on Friday, August 7.

In Woodstock, the Bearsville Theater has added quite a handful of new shows to its concert calendar, including Don’t Let Go: A Musical Celebration of Jerry Garcia at 9pm on Saturday, August 1 ($20 & $25); the Marilyn Crispell/Tani Tabbal Duo at 8pm on Saturday, August 8 ($20 & $30); jazz saxman Kamasi Washington at 8pm on Wednesday, August 19 ($15); the return of the Wood Brothers at 8pm on Tuesday, October 8 ($25; on sale on Friday); and Marco Benevento at 9pm on Saturday, October 17 ($15 in advance; $20 at the door).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Grateful Dead tribute band the Dark Star Orchestra is bringing their fall east coast tour to Albany’s Palace Theatre. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10am on Wednesday, July 29.

WEQX-FM is presenting a free concert by IAMDYNAMITE at Vapor in Saratoga Springs on Saturday, September 26. Doors opena at 8pm, and Local 518 faves Hard Soul will open the show.

Folk music icon Judy Collins is slated to play a rare two-night stand at the Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton at 7pm on Wednesday & Thursday, March 2 & 3. Singer-songwriter Ari Hest opens both nights. Tickets are on sale now, priced at $55.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The line-up of bands for the free Albany Riverfront Jazz Festival has been announced with classic soul organist and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Booker T. Jones headlining the day-long bash at Albany’s Jennings Landing. Also scheduled for the free fest are Kate Davis, Keith Pray’s Soul Jazz Revival, the Joey Thomas Big Band and Larry Moses’ Latin Jazz Express.

The line-up of performers hasn’t been announced yet, but the DigiTour Slay Bells 2015 Tour is slated to make a stop at the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park at 6:30pm on Friday, December 11. Priced at $25 in advance; $28 at the door, tickets are now on sale. And GRiZ headlines the Super Shagadelic Tour, which lands at UCH at 8pm on Friday, October 23, with Big Wild and Muzzy Bear in support. Priced at $20 in advance; $25 at the door, tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (July 24).

The Ulster Performing Arts Center in Kingston welcomes R&B great Chaka Khan at 7pm on Sunday, November 8. Priced at $65; $80 Golden Circle; $110 VIP, tickets will go on sale at 11am on Wednesday, July 29 for members and at 11am on Friday, July 31 for the general public.

Gang Gang Dance is headed into the Half Moon in Hudson on Friday, July 31. Opening the evening’s festivities at 9pm will be Georgia and Image Man.

The Bardavon in Poughkeepsie welcomes the two-time Grammy Award-winning Soweto Gospel Choir at 8pm on Friday, November 13. Priced at $40 & $55, tickets go on sale to Bardavon members at 11am on Wednesday, July 29 and at 11am on Friday, July 31 for the general public.

OPENERS: The Sea the Sea have been tapped to open for Bahamas at The Linda in Albany on Saturday (July 25).
