JAZZ: Skidmore Jazz Institute Concert Series

Friehofer’s Saratoga Jazz Festival is all over for 2015, but the sound of jazz is still reverberating throughout Saratoga Springs thanks to the annual Skidmore Jazz Institute.

The concert series takes place at Zankel Music Center’s Helen Filene Ladd Concert Hall on the campus of Skidmore College. Tickets are general admission – $8; $5 seniors; FREE students & children.

Here’s the schedule for the 2015 Skidmore Jazz Institute Concert Series:

THE GARY BARTZ QUARTET
Tuesday (June 30), 8pm
Gary Bartz is known to many as a trail-blazing alto saxophonist who first started playing with Art Blakey at his father’s jazz club in Baltimore and later gained notoriety playing with Max Roach, Charlie Parker and Miles Davis. The Grammy Award-winning musician has recorded more than 40 solo albums.

SKIDMORE JAZZ INSTITUTE FACULTY SEPTET
Thursday (July 2), 8pm
Featuring Bill Cunliffe (piano), David Wong (bass), Dennis Mackrel (drums), Paul Bollenback (guitar), Antonio Hart (alto saxophone), Mike Rodriguez (trumpet) and Michael Dease (trombone)

BEN WILLIAMS & SOUND EFFECT
Tuesday, July 7, 8pm.
The 30-year-old bassist brings his band back to Saratoga in support of his sophomore album, Coming of Age.
