COMIN’ SOON: This Week’s New Concert Announcements

The Bearsville Theater in Woodstock continues to pump up its concert schedule the new additions of reggae superstars Third World at 8pm on Thursday, August 6 ($35 & $50); Talking Heads tribute band Start Making Sense at 9pm on Friday, August 14 ($15); the luscious pop of Lucius at 8pm on Wednesday, September 16 ($18 in advance; $20 at the door); and LA-based indie folksters Lord Huron at 9pm on Friday, September 18 ($25). Tickets for all four new shows will go on sale to the general public at 12noon on Friday (June 19).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Peter Frampton (and his son Julian Frampton) will be bringing their RAW: An Acoustic Tour to The Egg’s Hart Theatre in Albany. Tickets go on sale on Friday (June 19).

If jazz guitar is your thing, you might want to hit up the Van Dyck box office. at 8pm on Friday, July 17, the Schenectady nightspot is playing host to the Gene Bertoncini/Paul Meyers Quartet, which features the guitar duo backed by the Bopitude rhythm section of drummer Mike Benedict and bassist Mike Lawrence. Tickets are $15. Then the Van Dyck welcomes jazz guitar virtuoso Stanley Jordan for a two-night on Friday & Saturday, September 11 & 12, with two shows (6:30 & 8:30pm) each night. Tickets are $22 in advance; $26 at the door.

Rapper Machine Gun Kelly invades the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park at 8pm on Sunday, August 9. Priced at $25 in advance; $28 at the door, tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (June 19).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Chris Difford & Glen Tilbrook – the masterful singer-songwriters from the British new wave posters Squeeze – are embarking on a U.S. tour as an acoustic duo, including a stop at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall.

As part of the Woodstock Film Festival, the Woodstock Playhouse will host a screening of the documentary film, “The Poet of Havana,” followed by a Q&A session and a concert featuring Cuban singer-songwriter Carlos Varela (the subject of the film) with bandmembers and special guest Jackson Browne. It all takes place on Wednesday, September 30. Doors open at 7:15pm. Tickets are available now for $60 & $100.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The veteran jazz/pop singer Tony Bennett will be 89 years old when he steps into the spotlight at the Palace Theatre with his special guest – daughter Antonia Bennett. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday, June 26.

Two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Graham Nash makes a tour stop at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock at 8pm on Sunday, August 16. Tickets are $100 & $150. Also coming up at Helm’s cozy Woodstock venue is Jackie Greene – fresh from his appearance at Mountain Jam with his band Trigger Hippy – who takes the stage at 8pm on Saturday, September 26. Tickets are $45 & $65.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Sibling teen-pop-rockers R5 are bringing their Sometime Last Night Tour to Albany’s Palace Theatre in support of their sophomore album. Yet another brother-DJ Ryland opens the show. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (June 19).

The Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band will be blues-rockin’ at the Calvin Theatre in Northampton at 8pm on Friday, August 28. Priced at $25, $35 & $45, tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (June 19).

SOLD OUT: The Beirut concert slated for the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock at 9pm on Friday (June 19) is now officially sold out… Both shows of Red Molly’s two-night stand at Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs at 7pm on Tuesday and Wednesday (June 23 & 24) are both now officially sold out.

New shows rolling into Albany’s Hollow Bar + Kitchen include the Heydaze at 8pm on Saturday, July 18 ($14); We Are Harlot at 7pm on Sunday, July 26 ($15.50 in advance; $17 at the door); Saint Motel at 9pm on Saturday, August 1; and Wolf Alice with Made Violent at 8pm on Thursday, August 6 ($10.27 in advance; $15 at the door).

OPENERS: Field Report opens for Strand of Oaks at the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock on Thursday, July 23… Twin Tigers have been announced as the openers for Interpol at the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park at 8pm on Wednesday, July 29… Bobbie Van Detta & the Split have been added as the opening act for Felicia Collins & the Life’s season-closing show at the Music Haven in Schenectady’s Central Park at 7pm on Sunday, August 9… Lara Johnston has been added to the bill with the Doobie Brothers and Gregg Allman at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs on Friday, September 4.
