MUSIC: The Tim Olsen Band @ Union College’s Taylor Music Center, Schenectady. The keyboardist (and Union music professor) and his band throw a CD release party for their new album, Creature of Habit on the Planet Arts label, performing the music and discussing the creative processes involved in putting together the CD. 5pm. MEMORIAL CELEBRATION: A Celebration of the Life & Work of Joseph Schuyler @ Capital Repertory Theatre, Albany. A gathering to honor the late Delmar photographer who died last month. Food, photographs, family and friends. 6pm. FREE.

MUSIC: Kongos @ Upstate Concert Hall, Clifton Park. The four brothers Kongos – multi-cultural, multi-faceted, multi-instrumental alt-rockers from South Africa – craft a unique and irresistible sound spawned from shared DNA, diverse influences and spot-on melodic and lyrical sensibilities. They bring their current tour to town in support of their recently re-released sophomore album, Lunatic. With Sir Sly and Colony House. 8pm. $22.

READING: Laura van den Berg @ Bard College’s László Z. Bitó ’60 Auditorium, Annandale-on-Hudson. Bard’s writer in residence and the author of the award-winning collection of stories, “The Isle of Youth,” reads from her debut novel, “Find Me.” 7pm. FREE.
