Comin’ Soon: New Concert Announcements

In a last minute addition to the concert calendar, BSP Lounge in Kingston welcomes Spain (led by Josh Haden) at 7pm on Friday (January 30). Tickets are just $10 at the door. And BSP has a batch of other mighty impressive new concerts, too. The double-bill of the Felice Brothers and the Spirit Family Reunion takes over the larger back room theater at 7pm on Saturday, February 14 ($20 in advance; $25 at the door). Kate Pierson (of the B-52s) celebrates the release of her debut solo album, Guitar & Microphones, at 7pm on Tuesday, February 24 ($15 in advance; $20 at the door); and the Feelies return at 7pm on Friday, April 24 ($20 in advance; $25 at the door).

CANCELLED: Never fear, tonight’s (Wednesday, January 28) concert by Dale Watson & His Lonestars at The Hangar in Troy will go on as scheduled, but unfortunately, Rosie Flores will not be on hand to stage the stage due to weather-related travel problems.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Three new country music concerts have been announced for the Saratoga Performing Arts Center including Lady Antebellum with Hunter Hayes and Sam Hunt; Brad Paisley with Justin Moore and Mickey Guyton; and Brantley Gilbert with Lee Brice.

Club Helsinki in Hudson has bolstered its calendar with a couple of new shows, including : Brazilian Girls at 9pm on Saturday, March 7 ($25 & $35); and the Pine Hill Project (featuring Richard Shindell, Lucy Kaplansky and Larry Campbell) at 9pm on Saturday, March 14 ($25 & $35).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Mark Knopfler – the former guitarslinger-singer-songwriter of Dire Straits – is scheduled to lead his band into Albany’s Palace Theatre in support of his upcoming solo album, Tracker.

On Saturday, February 28, Vapor in Saratoga Springs plays host to a free concert by Seattle singer-songwriter Fences, who upcoming debut album, Lesser Oceans, features guest appearances by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Doors open at 8pm and Local 518 faves Stellar Young open the show.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Summer’s Last Tour – featuring Slipknot, Lamb of God, Bullet for My Valentine and Motionless in White – is roaring into the Saratoga Performing Arts Center this summer.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: In support of his upcoming album, Carrie & Lowell, Sufjan Stevens will be stepping into the spotlight at the Palace Theatre in downtown Albany.

SOLD OUT: Michael Franti’s concert at The Egg on Tuesday, February 10 is now officially sold out.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Singer-songwriter Gregory Alan Isakov, who opened for Brandi Carlile at The Egg back in 2010, is slated for a return to Albany’s iconic orb-shaped theater, this time as a headliner.

In support of her latest album, Life as a Dog, indie hip-hopster K.Flay plays a free show at the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park at 8pm on Thursday, February 12 with Local 518 faves Titanics and Bells Roar opening the show. Also on the hip-hop tip, rapper Waka Flocka Flame grabs the UCH mic at 8pm on Sunday, April 19. Tickets are $20 in advance; $23 at the door. Meanwhile, the Used rumble into UCH on Tuesday, April 28 in support of their newest album, Imaginary Enemy. The evening kicks off at 7pm with support acts Every Time I Die, Marmozets and the Eeries. Tickets are $25 in advance; $28 at the door. Tickets for both new ticketed shows will go on sale at 10am on Friday (January 30).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: David Bromberg and Larry Campbell team up for an acoustic duo concert at The Egg in Albany. Tickets go on sale on Tuesday (February 3).

Fresh from their knock-out show at Club Helsinki earlier this month, Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds whip up their blend of rock ‘n’ soul at the Hollow Bar + Kitchen in Albany at 9:30pm on Saturday, March 28. Tickets are $12 in advance; $15 at the door. Also new on the Hollow’s calendar are Talking Heads tribute band Start Making Sense with HMFO at 8pm on Friday, March 13. Tickets are $15.

IN CASE YOU MISSED: Old Songs in Voorheesville announced the schedule for their upcoming winter/spring concert series, which includes performances by Socks in the Frying Pan, Beppe Gambetta & Rushad Eggelston, Mist Covered Mountains, Men at Words, Nordic Fiddlers Bloc, Ustad Shafaat Kahn and Maire NiChathasaigh & Chris Newman.

Lisa Fischer – long-time back-up singer for the Rolling Stones and one of the stars of the award-winning documentary “20 Feet From Stardom” – steps into the spotlight for her own concert at Northampton’s Calvin Theatre at 8pm on Tuesday, March 31. Priced at $25, $35 & $45, tickets go on sale on Friday (January 30). Also new at the Calvin is singer-songwriter Gregory Alan Isakov at 8pm on Saturday, April 11. Tickets are now on sale, priced at $25 & $35.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Tanglewood has announced that the multi-talented Bernadette Peters will be returning to Lenox again this summer with the Boston Pops Orchestra conducted by Keith Lockhart.

As part of the 10×10 Upstreet Arts Festival, veteran jazz piano master Bill Mays plays a special history of jazz concert at Baba Louie’s Backroom in Pittsfield at 8pm on Saturday, February 21. Tickets are $15 in advance; $20 at the door.
