Congrats to John Powhida

Former Nippertonian John Powhida – best known around town as the singer-songwriter-guitarist-bandleader of the Staziaks – has been living in Boston for a number of years now, and his current band, John Powhida International Airport, released their album, Airport Life, this summer.

NOTE: The band also features Albany ex-pat, bassist Jim Haggerty, and yet another Capital Region native – Mike Gent of the Figgs – played drums, guitar and synthesizer, as well as handling production chores on one of the album’s tracks, “Wendi.”

Well, the nominees for the annual Boston Music Awards were announced earlier this month, and one of Powhida’s tunes, “Cover Me I’m Going for Milk,” has earned a nomination for the prestigious Song of the Year honors.

Online voting is now open, and the winners will be announced at a big bash at Boston’s Revere Hotel on Sunday, December 14. Good luck, John!

Of course, I knew that. So why the mix-up? I’m gonna blame it on my Halloween hangover. Thanks for the catch. It has been corrected…

    No worries, Greg!
It’s an honest mistake, especially seeing that Jim’s brother John is also a musician!
