Real Good for FREE: StoryHarvest Festival @ Freedom Square on Saturday

September 22nd, 2014, 11:00 am by Greg

Yes, it’s officially autumn as of tonight (Monday, September 22), but don’t think that the free outdoor music fest season is over just yet…

The fourth annual StoryHarvest Festival takes over Freedom Square in Troy on Saturday afternoon (September 27) with free food, music, art activities and more. The festive community celebration takes place from 3:30pm ’til sunset and festival-goers are invited to bring lawn blankets and chairs, plus food to share in the community potluck. It’s an all-ages, rain-or-shine event with the nearby Sanctuary for Independent Media as the rainsite.

There will be delicious offerings from the Chefs’ Consortium, a “stone soup” featuring harvest bounty of local farmers, a barbeque, a visit from CDCG’s Veggie Mobile, plus other delectables.

Art activities include painting Freedom Flags, Troy Alley Action chalk-painting “intersection art,” and more! There will be a bike activity station with Troy Bike Rescue, and the folks from Transport Troy, Transition Troy and Solarize Troy will share important info about striving for our sustainable future.

At 3:30pm, Alex Torres & His Latin Orchestra will fire up their original blend of Afro-Caribbean rhythms including salsa, merengue, cha-cha bomba, plena and Latin jazz.

And at 5pm, the band Nation Beat brings on their 21st century mash-up of the thunderous grooves of northeastern Brazil fused with the strolling swagger of New Orleans funk.

Sound like it’s gonna be a party!
