Music by Maria Zemantauski, Michael Benedict Jazz Vibes, Professor Cunningham & His Old School, Catherine Russell and the Jack DeJohnette Trio. MUSIC: Hamell On Trial @ the Low Beat, Albany. The former Nippertonian returns for a homecoming gig in support of his new album, The Happiest Man in the World. With Jefferson James. 8pm.

MUSIC: Giacomo Smith & Friends @ Universal Preservation Hall, Saratoga Springs. The London-based, clarinet-playing Saratoga native brings together a six-piece ensemble of local and international musicians for an evening of swinging jazz and New Orleans classics. 7:30pm. $25.

MUSIC: Dave Porter @ Carney’s Tavern, Ballston Lake. The former front man for the ’80s Syracuse prog-rockers plays a solo show… with some help from his mannequin, Bob. 9pm.

MUSIC: Tisziji Munoz Quartet @ the Falcon, Marlboro. The adventurous jazz guitarist teams up with Paul Shaffer. Yes, that Paul Shaffer, keyboardist and bandleader of the David Letterman Band. 7pm.

MUSIC: Lizz Wright @ Club Helsinki, Hudson. The critically acclaimed jazz-soul-gospel vocalist Lizz Wright, whose music also touches on gospel and R&B, performs an intimate gig in support of her latest album, Fellowship. Accompanied by guitarists Marvin Sewall and Robin Macatangay, bassist Nicholas D’Amato and drummer Rocky Bryant. 9pm. $35 & $45.

FESTIVAL/MUSIC: Dead Ahead @ Duke’s Grove, Waterford. Five bands for five bucks – the Mysteios (12noon); the Mike McMann Band (2pm); Sonic Metanoia (4pm); Soul Sky (6pm); Dead Ahead (8pm). $5.
