Hey, you know, we kinda like Eddie Money, but we’re a little burned out on the guy…

His performance at the Empire State Plaza Convention Hall – moved indoors from the Plaza due to the weather forecast – earlier this month was his second time headlining the New York State Food Festival in just the past four years. And it was Money’s seventh (at least) annual summer tour stop in Nippertown…

Do we really need to hear “Two Tickets to Paradise” every summer?

  1. Toast says:

People complaining about free concerts always cracks me up.

  2. Roger Noyes says:

Those free concerts are funded from somewhere, mostly tax money, right? And come on, what does it say about our local culture that the curators of this stuff keep going back to the same old stale choices? Even if the shows are free, it’s kind of sad that these are the cultural decisions that get made on our behalf. Nothing says “I’m out of ideas” more than Eddie Money, unless, sadly, it’s the public who is asking for this dross.

  3. Toast says:

dross /drôs,dräs/ something regarded as worthless; rubbish.

Well, he played Vapor the past 2 years and those weren’t free shows. Hundreds of people paid to see that “dross”.

He last played a FREE show in the area 3 years ago.

I anxiously await your free concert and all your great multicultural ideas for entertainment.

Last time I saw him (free show in Troy) he was mocking Michelle Obama for having muscular arms. That was it for me… no desire to see the guy again. Heard there’s a new nightclub opening in Saratoga in fall… and the grand opening concert is, you guessed it, Eddie Money.

  5. Roger Noyes says:

Well, Toast, you were the one to mention that it ‘cracks you up’ for people to complain about something free; so it was the free part I was responding to. I was merely pointing out that none of Eddie Money’s shows are free in the sense that the musicians do get paid from some source, even when no admission is charged. And that source (whether govt. or private clubs) seems to see fit bringing this relic back to the area again and again, whether by popular appeal, lack of new ideas, etc. And yes, I have played plenty of free concerts, many times, but I do like to get paid for them, as all musicians should.
