The down-home celebration of music, food and community will feature world class music from the great state of New York and beyond, including performances by eclectic, folk-blues icon David Bromberg, renowned filmmaker and musician John Cohen, award-winning next-generation folk balladeers Anais Mitchell & Jefferson Hamer, Woodstock’s own retro-soul diva Simi Stone, veteran swing and jazz collective the Saints of Swing featuring Rene Bailey, Louisiana swamp-pop band the Revelers, American fiddle tune masters Jay Ungar & Molly Mason and many more.
In addition to continuous live music on two side-by-side stages, the Summer Hoot offers children’s activities, local food & beer, handmade crafts, hiking, blacksmith demonstrations, a late night square dance and two short indoor film screenings.
Gates open at 3pm on Friday (August 22), and music begins at 6pm. The festivities continue until 7pm Sunday (August 24).
The Hoot raises money for the Ashokan Center’s vital environmental education and natural history programs that run year-round. “This year’s festival will honor the memory of Pete & Toshi Seeger. There was not a dry eye in the audience for Pete’s set here last year. And the encouragement in his kind thank-you postcard has been a real inspiration to us. After he played, Pete asked us if we planned to keep ticket prices affordable as the Hoot grew larger. We are proud to say yes. We believe in making the Hoot as accessible and open to all, and treating the crowd to an abundance of some of the best music on earth,” says Mike Merenda.
Weekend passes are $60; $70 at the gate. Single-day admission is $25 on Friday; $40 on Saturday and $30 on Sunday. Ages 12 and under are FREE.
Additional artists confirmed for this weekend’s Summer Hoot include Kristin Andreassen, Robert Sarazin Blake, Breathe Owl Breathe, the Bright Siders, Burnell Pines, Debra Clifford & Emily Schaad, Jay Collins & the Kings County Band, Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer, the Ivy Vine Players, Chas Justus, DB Leonard, the Little Saros, Chris Merenda, Milton, Mister Chris, Billy Mitchel, the Old Way, a reunion of the Putnam String County Band, Serious Juggling & Comedy, Small Houses, Spirit Family Reunion and more.
