Festival Fever: Jazz in the Valley @ Poughkeepsie’s Waryas Park on Sunday

The annual Jazz in the Valley festival returns to Waryas Park in Poughkeepsie on Sunday (August 17), and once again, the fest offers something for everyone. The Pavilion Stage will host free performances by the Poughkeepsie Jazz Project, Ben Basile, Macheeste Malloy and Thomas, Bonga & Joakim.

There is an admission charge ($45 in advance; $55 at the gate) for the Main Stage events, however. The Main Stage performers will include Mike Torsone, Melba Joyce, the Kenyatta Beasley Quintet and a tribute to Cheo Feliciano featuring Chocolate Armenteros, Nicky Marerro and Zon del Barrio. And headlining the big jazz bash is the Message, an all-star combo in tribute to Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers, featuring an A-list line-up of players including Javon Jackson, Steve Turre, Buster Williams, George Cables, Bobby Watson, Eddie Henderson and drummer Lewis Nash.

Gates open at 11am on Sunday; music begins at 12noon.
