FAIR: Altamont Fair @ Altamont Fairgrounds, Altamont. It’s opening day of Nippertown’s biggest summer fair. Hollywood Racing Pigs, Disc Connected K9′s, Sherman’s Lumberjack Show, Jet Crash Billy, Circus Hollywood and lots more… Exhibits open at 11am; midway at 12noon. $15.

MUSIC: Lil Wayne @ Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Saratoga Springs. With Drake. 7pm.

THEATER: “Carousel” @ Glimmerglass Opera, Cooperstown. This year’s American musical at Glimmerglass is the Rodgers & Hammerstein classic that Time magazine called “best musical of the 20th century.” Conducted by Doug Peck and directed by Charles Newell, it tells the story of a carousel barker’s struggles to rise above challenging circumstances. 1:30pm. $26, $55, $78, $95 & $115; $10, $15, $20 & $25 youth 18 & under.

MUSIC: String of Pearls @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. The vintage “girl group” – Jeanne O’Connor, Sue Halloran and Holli Ross – brings a modern vocal jazz twist to their repertoire, which stretches from the 1930s sounds of the Boswell Sisters and Andrews Sisters to Brazilian, bebop and pop music. Backed by Tony Regusis on piano, Pete Toigo on bass and Sam Zucchini on drums. 7pm. $18.

SPORTS/MUSIC: Hair of the Dog @ Joe Bruno Stadium, Troy. It’s a night of cats & dogs, as the Tri-City ValleyCats‘ game against the Hudson Valley Renegades (7pm) is preceded by a concert by Hair of the Dog (5pm).

FILM: “Bill T. Jones: A Good Man” @ PS21, Chatham. The 2011 documentary follows acclaimed director-choreographer Bill T. Jones for two tumultuous years, as he tackles the most ambitious work of his career, an original dance-theater piece in honor of Abraham Lincoln’s bicentennial. 2011. 8pm. FREE.
