THEATER: “Carousel” @ Glimmerglass Opera, Cooperstown. This year’s American musical at Glimmerglass is the Rodgers & Hammerstein classic that Time magazine called “best musical of the 20th century.” Conducted by Doug Peck and directed by Charles Newell, it tells the story of a carousel barker’s struggles to rise above challenging circumstances. 1:30pm. $26, $55, $78, $95 & $115; $10, $15, $20 & $25 youth 18 & under.
MUSIC: String of Pearls @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. The vintage “girl group” – Jeanne O’Connor, Sue Halloran and Holli Ross – brings a modern vocal jazz twist to their repertoire, which stretches from the 1930s sounds of the Boswell Sisters and Andrews Sisters to Brazilian, bebop and pop music. Backed by Tony Regusis on piano, Pete Toigo on bass and Sam Zucchini on drums. 7pm. $18.
MUSIC: The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center @ SPAC’s Spa Little Theater, Saratoga Springs. Pianists Wu Han and Anne-Marie McDermott; violinists Benjamin Beilman and Alexander Sitkovetsky; violist Paul Neubauer; cellist David Finckel; and double bassist Joseph Conyers perform works by Mozart, Kodaly and Mendelssohn. 8pm.
