Massry Center Announces 2014-2015 Concert Series

The Massry Center for the Arts at Albany’s College of Saint Rose has announced the concert calendar for its upcoming Premiere Performances season, and it spans the stylist gamut from rock to pop to jazz to classical to zydeco, all wrapping up with what promises to be the funkiest concert of 2015.

MEHRGEN: WOMEN OF THE MIDDLE EAST
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 7:30pm
$20; $10 students
An all-day event encompasses music, lecture, dance and art from women of the Middle East featuring singer-musician Sepideh Raissadat, the Dilan Dance Company, author Ava Homa and painter Rozhin Dabiri.

THE JOHN PIZZARELLI QUARTET

The world-renowned jazz guitarist and singer has been called “hip with a wink” by Town & Country, “madly creative” by The Los Angeles Times and “the genial genius of the guitar” by The Toronto Star.

Singer-songwriter and spoken word artist Mary Lambert is best known as the featured vocalist-songwriter on Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ hit gay rights anthem, “Same Love.”

Former members of the latter-day Band – guitarist Jim Weider and drummer Randy Ciarlante – carry on the musical legacy Levon, Robbie, Garth, Rick and Richard with Brian Mitchell, Marty Grebb and Byron Isaacs.

“IT’S A JAZZY CHRISTMAS”

Led by piano man Dave Gleason, the Peanut Gallery Jazz Trio offers a family concert celebrating the popular jazz of Vince Guaraldi, whose music was the soundtrack to the timeless “Peanuts” holiday television specials.

An acoustic solo performance by the Dave Matthews Band guitarist whose musical career spans more than 35 years.

A solo piano concert. The New York Times has hailed him as “a young super-virtuoso, with musical sensitivity and an appreciation of style to go with the thunder and lightning.”

New Orleans music legends Art Neville, George Porter Jr., Russell Batiste Jr. and Brian Stoltz carry on the grand legacy of the Meters.
