MUSIC: Bang On a Can Marathon @ MASS MoCA, North Adams. It’s the sprawling, six-hour, boundary-busting festival finale featuring 50-plus musicians and composers from around the world. OPERA: “Ariadne in Naxos” @ Glimmerglass Opera, Cooperstown. Richard Strauss’ opera-within-an-opera features both lighthearted comedy and heroic grand opera, as two different performing troupes compete for the attention of a wealthy patron. CIRCUS/THEATER: Cirque Éloize’s “iD” @ Proctors, Schenectady. Directed by Jeannot Painchaud, “iD” is a high-energy production, blending circus, street dance and hip-hop. It features a cast of 15 acrobats and performers, and incorporates innovative multimedia elements, as well as a rock and electronica soundtrack by Jean-Phi Goncalves and Alex McMahon. 2 & 7:30pm. $20-$50.
MUSIC: Ed Palermo Big Band’s Second Annual Beach Party @ the Falcon, Marlboro. Palermo is moving the big band tradition forward, utilizing a deep repertoire that includes Jimi Hendrix, Paul Butterfield, Todd Rundgren and lots of Frank Zappa. Thrilling stuff. 7pm. Donations encouraged.
