FESTIVAL/MUSIC: Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival @ Walsh Farm, Oak Hill. It’s Day One of the four-day fest, and they’re kickin’ it off with a big bang by featuring the reunion of Nickel Creek, the Steep Canyon Rangers, the Deadly Gentlemen, the HillBenders, the Aoife O’Donovan Band, Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers, Town Mountain, the Barefoot Movement, the Dry Branch Fire Squad and lots more. Music begins at 11am; Main Stage at 1pm.

MUSIC: Eastbound Jesus @ Jennings Landing, Albany. Alive at Five celebrates the mighty music of the Local 518. With Stellar Young and Hard Soul. 5pm. FREE.

OPERA: “Madame Butterfly” @ Glimmerglass Opera, Cooperstown. Conducted by Joseph Colaneri; directed by Francesca Zambello. Delicate and vulnerable yet possessed of a steely resolve, Puccini’s unforgettable heroine risks ostracization to be with her love, a handsome American naval officer. READING: William Kennedy @ Skidmore College’s Davis Auditorium, Saratoga Springs. The NYS Summer Writers Institute’s reading series welcomes its founder, Pulitzer Prize winner and Nippertown’s literary lion. 8pm. FREE.

ARTISTS TALK: “Summer Exposure” @ the Albany Institute of History and Art, Albany. It’s the reception for the opening of the new exhibition featuring the photographic work of Nippertown contributor Martin Benjamin, as well as Carolyn Marks Blackwood, Tom Fels, Dana Joey and William Jaeger. 5-8pm. FREE.

THEATER: “Smokey Joe’s Cafe” @ Capital Repertory Theatre, Albany. The jukebox musical based on the many hit songs of Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller – including “”On Broadway, “Jailhouse Rock,” “Hound Dog,” “Fools Fall in Love,” “Stand by Me” and “Love Potion #9” – is directed by Richard J.
