Benjamin Franklin once famously said, “Nothing is certain but death and taxes.” But if it’s the second weekend of the month there’s one more thing that’s certain – Skip Parsons and his Riverboat Jazz Band are playing at the Fountain in Albany. Clarinetist-bandleader Parsons and his musical crew have kept their monthly residency gig going continuously since 1971.
And this is that weekend once again, so if you’re looking for a night of traditional, New Orleans-style jazz, just head on down to the Fountain in Albany this weekend. Skip Parsons’ Riverboat Jazz Band kicks it all off on the downbeat at 10pm on Friday and Saturday (May 9 & 10).
UPDATE, 6pm 5/9/14: We’re sorry to report that Skip Parsons underwent surgery recently – a quintuple bypass and two heart valves replaced – so he will not be playing at the Fountain this weekend. But the Riverboat Jazz Band will be carrying on without their fearless leader as special guest clarinetist Ron Joseph will sub for Skip this weekend. Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Skip. We hope to see you back up on the bandstand soon…
