Get Yer Ha-Ha’s Out with Maria Bamford @ The Egg on Friday

In the past couple of years, Nippertown has turned into a mighty funny place, and I mean that in the best possible way. Stand-up comedy has become a Local 518 live performance staple nearly as inescapable as the tribute band.

Of course, comedy is a particularly subjective art form. What you think is hilarious may not even make me chuckle. And vice versa. But someone who truly tickles my funnybone is Maria Bamford, who is making her Nippertown concert debut at The Egg in Albany on Friday night (May 9). She’s a smart and decidedly surreal stand-up, armed with a vast arsenal of voices. Her album Ask Me About My New God! was named one of the Top Five comedy albums of 2013 by Entertainment Weekly.

Maybe you saw her on Netflix’s re-boot of “Arrested Development” or “The Comedians of Comedy.” Maybe you know her from her online web series “The Maria Bamford Show” and “Ask My Mom.” Maybe you saw her comedy special “Maria Bamford: the special special special.”

Or, heck, maybe you never heard of her before, but who doesn’t need a good laugh these days?

Maria Bamford steps into the spotlight at The Egg’s Swyer Theatre in Albany at 8pm on Friday (May 9). Tickets are $25.

And here’s a round-up of some other laugh-inducing options for you during the upcoming summer season:
