MUSIC: Julian Lage & Chris Eldridge @ Saratoga Arts, Saratoga Springs. Fabulous fretboard fireworks from two free-thinking, genre-bending acoustic guitarists – Julian Lage (of the New Gary Burton Quartet) and Chris Eldridge (of the Punch Brothers). 7:30pm. $20.

MUSIC: Secret Star Acoustic Jam @ Proctors, Schenectady. An intimate performance by three country music stars, whose identity is revealed only when they step into the spotlight. 7pm. $25.

FILM: Knickerbocker Film Festival @ WAMC-FM’s The Linda, Albany. An evening of selected entries into the film festival, along with a Q&A with filmmakers. 6:30pm. $10.

PARTICIPATORY MUSIC: Open Mic @ Club Helsinki, Hudson. Co-hosted by Cameron Melville and Ryder & Hazel. 6:30pm sign-up; 7pm show.

MUSIC: The Landfill Mountain Boys @ Arthur’s Market, Schenectady. 7pm.

MUSIC: The Antti Tolvi/Chris Corsano Duo @ the Upstate Artists Guild, Albany. All the way from Finland, it’s self-taught, multi-talented pianist Antti Tolvi in a duo performance with one of today’s most acclaimed and accomplished drummers anywhere. With guitarist Jefferson Pitcher and the improv duo of Meg Duffy & Jason Cosco. 8pm. $5.

MUSIC: The Novel Ideas @ the Half Moon, Hudson. Boston-based country/folk quintet. With Kayln Rock. 8pm.

THEATER/FUNDRAISER: “The Vagina Monologues” @ Cafe 217, Albany. A three-course meal followed by Eve Ensler’s play. Proceeds benefit Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood, the Women’s Building and the 2014 V-Day Spotlight Campaign. 6:30pm. $35.

READING: Akhil Sharma @ UAlbany Campus Center’s Assembly Hall, Albany. The award-winning author reads from his much-anticipated second novel, “Family Life,” the story of Indian-American immigrants who are forced to cope after one of the family’s two sons suffers a dreadful accident. 8pm.
