Congrats to Local 518 jazz band Michael Benedict & Bopitude. The band’s latest album Five and One (with special guest baritone saxman Gary Smulyan) was named one of the Best CDs of 2013 in the January issue of DownBeat Magazine.

New classic rock band Lila & the Obsessions make their debut at 9pm on Friday (January 17) at the River Street Pub in Troy. The band features vocalist Lila Lynn Laguna, guitarist Rich Warner, bassist Wayne Orr and stalwart drummer JJ “Jelvis” Hogan. The Blockos share the bill. Admission is $5.

At the Hollow Bar + Kitchen in Albany on Saturday (January 18) for the CD release party for their brand new disc Big Suspicious, Wild Adriatic will be beefing up to a quartet with the addition of special guest keyboardist Pat Daley. Tickets are $10 in advance; $15 at the door.

Bruno Mars has invited the Red Hot Chili Peppers to join him during the Super Bowl XLVIII Halftime Show in MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ on Sunday, February 2. Let’s hope there’s not a sock malfunction…
