THEATER: “War Horse” @ Proctors, Schenectady. It’s opening night for the five-time Tony Award-winning drama about a young boy and his horse in World War I. At its heart are astonishing life-sized puppets created by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company that bring to life the breathing, galloping, charging horses. 7:30pm. $20, $35, $50, $65 & $85.

FILM: “The Punk Singer” @ Spectrum 8 Theatres, Albany. Lead singer of Bikini Kill and Le Tigre, Kathleen Hanna rose to national attention as the reluctant but never shy voice of the Riot Grrrl movement. This documentary provides an overview of her influential career, leading up to the much-anticipated launch of her new band, the Julie Ruin. This one-night-only screening will be followed by a Skype Q&A with director Sini Anderson. 7pm. $10; $8.25 students; $8 seniors.
